Knarfang mod on Let's Talk GEC on the Traditionals

Since you have "deleted" all your posts, allow me to clarify my position by quoting the originals. (No post is ever deleted. It may not be visible to the regular membership, but moderators can see the history of each post and can make that history visible if necessary.)

This mod is threatening and harassing me and I want it stopped immediately! He is threatening me with with is 40 point perm points. If I was to get tagged for that them I would appeal as I have never called out any mod by name. I want support now and I am tired of this mod harassing me. I am paid member and I want support! Go to this thread and see my posts compared to his. Who is calling who out by name.
hmmm... well let's take a look at your original post in Traditional.

Great positive support for a new member. I had one member private message me with support like that. I really think what happens and it sounds similar to maybe Leslie is that you get all these comments like "It is said here that you cannot do this or that," and a new person does not know. I did not even know where all these "laws" were written. I just started posting with my own obvious politeness rules. There are many who guided me in a positive way and I really thank them for that. Unfortunately, and still now, there are many that have been here for many years that take a hardcore mod position (and one or two mods as well) that really do not show support but flex their so called "muscle knowledge" on the "laws," and issues that if you do not agree, conform, or make an honest foul without malice intentions, you are sternly told so in a non inviting way. Treat others the way you want to be treated and if one does something that is against the rules, tell them in a respectful way and realize they probably did not realize what they did was wrong and guide them in a friendly way, not in such a cold way that they feel slapped on the wrist. If they did intentionally, then what I said is off the table. Peace to you and wish you a prosperous '19. Now back to GEC knives.

I just keeping my eyes open for the Bartham this year. Yes the infamous 77 Barlow. If I see that, I will all over it and every variant that is offered. This is my favorite of any knife in the world. Yes any knife. Ha ha ha.

Now my response to that jab at the moderation of the Traditional Forum
Since there are only two mods who spend much time Traditional, your post is quite pointed as to whom you are referring. You will have to allow me to defend my friend and myself, since you feel so free to attack us. Be advised, that sassing the mods is a 40 permanent point infraction. If you wish to make a formal complaint without an infraction, you may start a complaint thread in the Tech Support Forum instead of making snide remarks in a discussion thread.

Stickies containing posting guidelines are placed at the top of the forum to make them visible. If one does not wish to read the stickies before diving in and posting, one can read for a while to get the hang of the place. Amazingly enough, most new visitors don't have any problems fitting in. And the few who get a private message nudge from a moderator mostly don't freak out over it. But then there are some who are bound and determined to have a fit about any type of correction, no matter how phrased. The Traditional forum is one of the most active forums at BF, so if Peregrin and I are chasing off members, it does not seem to be noticeable.

I hope you find your Barlow in 2018.

If you jab at the moderation of a subforum, and there are only two moderators there, then it is quite plain about whom you are talking. You have repeatedly told Peregrin and I that there are many who do not like our moderation of the forum. I am therefore going to open this thread so that those people who are so offended by us can voice their disdain.

I ate something that isn't quite agreeing with me and the results are quite offensive to me (and anyone else in the room). Does that belong here? Ho ho ho, the gift that keeps on giving.

Seriously, I find it hard to believe any rational thinking person would be truly offended by Traditional Forum moderation. I was infracted a couple of times by Traditionals Forum mods shortly after arriving here. Those points expired but not before having the desired effect on my behavior.

I've found the Traditionals Forum to be a gem of the internet. I have no doubt that the (what appears to me to be) light moderation goes a long way in keeping it that way.

Hi Frank and Gary, been a while since I've visited the forum, but you both have always had my respect and admiration for your even handed and gentle approach to moderation. Its nice to see that you are both here, volunteering your time and efforts to try and keep the spirit and nature of things on track. It's a thankless job sometimes, but from me to you...thank you, and Merry Christmas.

Frank and Gary,
Both of you have been professional, respectful and effective in every case of which I am aware. I thank you for doing so incredibly well in what is sometimes unpleasant and even difficult situations. Your efforts in helping to maintain the porch's family atmosphere and making it an enjoyable place to visit has not gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.
Merry Christmas Gentlemen, -James

I have chime in only because I've been here for quite awhile and I am an active and contributing member on many of the forums and sub forums here. I've had my wrists slapped and made mistakes like anyone new to the forums might make. I've seen no favoritism or any clique when it comes to the moderation staff here. Hell after all these years here I've had my disagreements with a few mods here and took the advice, (along with the points when warranted) and learned from my mistake and moved on.

I know many of the Mods including Kevin on different levels and multiple venues including BFC, FB, IG and so many other Social media sites. These folks have a tough job to do especially with the size of the forum and the diversity of subjects among the many sub forums out there. Hell I moderate on a few small sites and I don't envy any of their duties least of all having to correct the actions of the members here at BFC.

I find them all to be fair and even though I don't agree with everything they all have to say, I respect them for the job they volunteer for and agree to not make their jobs more difficult by signing a contract/agreement to that fact. Spark's forum, Spark's rules, Sparks moderation staff.

Frank's had to correct me on occasion and like with the others I take it for what it is and nothing more, I've never felt singled out or picked on for having a different opinion (just for inappropriate postings :o :) ) Neither have I ever felt animosity because I was an unpaid member or member level elitism at least in any other parts of the forum other than the unique 1% of the dark side and even there I see no real difference in treatment by the members of staff.

What I have noticed over the last 5-7 years is the rise in entitlement attitudes of the newer and sometimes younger membership who join forums and bulletin boards without ever once reading the TOS they signed or any of the site rules until after they get called on something they've said or done. Then when it's pointed out they'll stomp their entitled feet and make all kinds of ridiculous demands based on what they feel they're owed for sharing, no not sharing but for allowing anyone else insight into their opinions. You know folks if you think you can do a better job and feel like you're being picked on or singled out for your opinion by a mod or anyone else, start your own forum and make your own rules. Let me know how that works out for you folks.

Kevin, Frank, Esav, Gus all you old timers, the OBs who helped shape the greatest knife forum and clearinghouse of information involving sharpened tools and weapons, thanks for all the years you've had to put up with the membership here, good and bad. You folks all know you have my utmost respect and honor for what you volunteer to do here. Like I said before, I may not agree with all of you but I do respect your opinions and will honor your right to have a differing opinion from mine. In the same vane I appreciate when I don't agree you respecting my opinion and taking the time to help me see your point of view and also taking the time to understand mine.

NB16, I think you over reacted and were out of line in your response to the staff here. This was made obvious by the way you edited your comments out right away and the way you attack rather than try to resolve. You're real quick to lash out and play a victim, almost seems familiar, like you've been here before with the same or similar ax to grind (pun intended ;) ).

If you truly are here for the knives then move on and accept the points and consider it an expensive lesson and enjoy the largest most informative knife forum in the world. One with access to more of the great custom makers and and smiths, the makers and shakers of the industry and the the knife community from collectors to CEO s and design engineers for some of the largest and select manufacturers in the world.

Assimilate or move on !!!! ;) :) (~);-}

Thanks for all you folks do, I know we don't always make it easy so I'd like to apologize for the ones who make your jobs more difficult on a daily basis. ;)

As someone with over a decade of experience posting on this forum, it has been my observation that people who truly "take the high road", leave their original posts be and add a second post correcting their earlier comments.

knarfeng knarfeng I've gotten infracted by frank, and even when I was being a dick (reason for infraction, not directed at the mods) I've been treated cordially even while the wrist slapping commenced.

No complaints here, I think OP just had rustled jimmies :)

I can't be infracted 'cause I'm orange.

I have been 'talked to' by both Frank and Gary in the past, actually more than once. They both have been rather nice about it. I hate to see them get accused of being the opposite.
I'm glad I didn't throw a huge fit over it. That would be embarrassing. :(
These 2 threads should stay next to each other for the full picture.
