Hey guy I am almost done with knife #11. It is my first made to order knife. It is ats34 with TMickley butterscotch micarta. It was Ht'd by Peters Ht and is at RC59-60. I learned alot about finishing and to being patient and doing each step correctly and paying more attention to detail. I had just wiped off the blue tape and wiped with goo gone. That is what is showing on the ricasso. And where it looks like scratches is the makers stamp. I need to figure out a better way to do this cause on some blades it looks good and the others I only get half the name.:grumpy:

Please let me know what you think.

Looks good to me, Frank. As to your mark, I think most guys etch their logo on stainless, after heat-treat. Talk to Terry Barkes here on the forum about stamping, he has a nice set-up and will give you some tips on getting good results.

Nice knife Panch0. I hope you get to use it to "disassemble" those punks that stole your stuff! ;)

Thanks guys. I have a great manicurist.:D I got a bigger knife for them punks who stole my stuff.

Looks good!

My only question/concern is: How sharp is the edge of the micarta that is next to the lanyard hole?

...*I thought I had said this earlier*...

It is not that sharp, it feels good in the hands. You can't tell in the pics but there is a slight bulge between the last pin and the lanyard hole.

Looks great, Frank! I'd suggest etching for your mark as well, or if you want to continue with stamping, build a stamp holder/striker.

Looks good. My only concern would be the size of the owners hand and the exposed end of the tang being uncomfortable. I like the look of the exposed tang but on a short handle I'm afraid it would be uncomfortable under harder use.

IVEmade alot in the past 3 months but still havent started etching thats the best if you want a nice logo to show up.

Congratulations on your first custom work! Kind of getting your chops going eh? That's a nice looking knife and you did a nice job on the finish.

I know what you mean about the impression. There's a lot of discussion between stamping and etching and in the end etching probably seems to me the 'best' way to mark one's work. However, I like to stamp mine and I probably always will. I had a lot of trouble with an even impression too, so I built a stamp holder out of scrap stuff in my shop, which has worked for me now for 5+ years. The anvil part needs to be replaced with steel; the brass is beginning to sag. Even so, it works pretty well and totally reduces the flinch factor while keeping the stamp aligned. It also adjusts to different sized stamps, so I can use letter/number sets or my smaller mark using the same support. I made a spacer to move the support out too, so can get adjustment for greater distance from the spine.

This worked for me because I'm cheap, and while there are more refined tools available this one was free and only took a few minutes to make.

Slots on the back allow adjustment for different sized stamps.

Pancho , you need to take more pictures . I cannot find anything to bitch about in those pics . :jerkit::D

I'll bet the blade I sent you will scare the punks when you get it done . Mine is almost finished .

Man I am gonna get all fancy with that one, but I have to wait on finishing that one until the next batch gets done and sent to Peter's HT.:o

Hey Frank, that a nice knife you made. If you need to care of matters you can borrow my big bowie. I got the axis handle carved and it looks good. Keep up the good work, Rey.

That big ole Bowie of yours could handle any problemas that arise alright. Thanks Rey.
