Just finishing this one and getting ready to send off to Tess Neilson for sheath making. I was directed to make this knife strickly for field dressing only and because of that I went hard on the heat treat, tempering at 475 F.. It is HRc 61 and I have tested it with both cardboard and seasoned hard oak with no noticable dulling or edge chipping.

The half guard is soldered and I mortised the scales with a roughing mill to provide locking ridges. My Pop, the wood worker, band sawed the 0.056 inch liners for me.

Anyhow, here it is: http://riflestocks.tripod.com/pics12.html

Thanks to all, as always. RL

Now that's awsome! Clean and pure, the ivory looks outstanding and the ebony adds a very nice touch. Beutifull

Roger, that knife is beautiful, just like the rest of your work! I figured something out, Roger. YOU DO NOT SLEEP! NEVER! You make and hunt 24/7. Really great,Roger!

Very nice Rodger I really like the black spacers it really adds nice contrast to the knife. Well done !

Roger you shame me! Beautiful! You really did Loveless proud on that one. Even distal taper in the blade! One thing though, Loveless would have hollow ground that baby. But from what I see here he could take a lesson from you - da man!

Great work Roger, keep it up and I'm going to find a new vocation, I just can't keep up with you!

Very nice. No going half way for you, that's got all the snappy features....

Great Job.

field dressing

hahhahaha If I owned that knife it wouldn't get covered with guts and tossed on the ground! I might remove it from the display case, make a couple of cuts, clean it and put it back - just to say I use it.

WOW Roger! I gotta say, as a knifemaker, you really hit the ground running. For being number fifteen, that baby looks more like a number five hundred and fifteen. Great work. You got this knifemakin' thang down cold buddy!

All the best,
Mike U.

You guys are my inspiration and continue to encourage me on. Thanks again, for sure.

Encourage you to go on? Your work speaks for itself. There are makers that have been doing this for 20 year or more and their work isn't that nice. I am not stating that just to encourage you, it is just the plain truth. Keep it up and keep going. Lets see where you can go from here. You've got the "touch".
