I almost gave up on this one. My original intention was to have hand polished flats and machine finished bevels. But, I kept scratching one while working on the other. Very frustrating! So, I attempted my first satin finish and fell in love with it! This is O-1 steel with G10 handles. Sharpening this thing had been tough! I spent a half-hour sharpening with my Lansky, but still don't have a burr. It's hard steel and I only took it to .04" pre heat-treat. Bad idea!

Try starting your edge on your grinder. Once you have a burr, switch over to your lansky. That's how I do it. Sharpening on the lansky will only take about 10 minutes at that point.

I do the same. If I'm going for 40 degrees inclusive, I set the edge on the grinder to 37-38. This way when I go to the sharpmaker I am already hitting the edge. Works pretty good for me. How thick is the finished edge?
