After a long delay, I finally finished Knife #7... well, actually Knives #7 (plural). Some of my sisters have been requesting that I make them some knives, so this is what I came up with.

Stats
Length: 4-7/8"
Blade: 2" (cutting edge)
Steel: 1/8" 1080 (from Kelly Cupples)
Clay-Treated w/ hamon, Hollow-Ground w/ tapered-tang
Handle: Desert Ironwood w/ 416ss bolsters and pins

I have four sisters. The four knives with the lighter Desert Ironwood are each stenciled with one of their nick-names on the presentation side. On the back side is my maker's mark. The fifth knife - the one with the dark ironwood scales - was my extra... just in case I screwed on of the other ones up. Once it appeared that they'd all finish up OK, I decided to give the darker wood a try and figured I'd keep it for myself :D.

I don't suppose that I can give them as gifts until I get some sheaths made - I still haven't made a single sheath  - but I'll save that for another thread.

If you are interested, you can see the original WIP thread HERE.

Let me know what you think.

I really think the artistic design and finish work are incredible. They are absolutly gorgeous.

You have four sister that are soon to have knives like that ! I hope you don't make any or all mad at the same time! :D
Seriously they turned out great, can't wait to see the sheaths!

they look great! i love the bolster shape, and the handle scales came out very nicely. i have a question though, the blade on the second knife down looks like it have a wave in it? kind of like a chunk got taken out, what is that?

Erin, taking your time sure payed off. I am working on my twenty something knife and its not even as nice as these. Great job.

I'm just guessing but it looks like the edge got a bit to thin there so it had to be moved back. its a hawk bill blade and grinding them is harder them grinding a normal blade. as you can see each knife has it a bit toward the back of the blade. but man those knives are supper sweet looking

This is one of the nicest compliments I've received... thanks brother. I definitely have room for improvement on finish though.

You are absolutely correct. This was the thinnest part of the edge, and in an effort to get the handle end of the blade sharp like the rest, I ended up moving the edge back a bit here. It is similar with all five knives though... so I guess I could have kept my mouth shut and said it was part of my plan all along. :D
