This is Knife #8b. It is the second of three of this design. They are intended to be given as gifts: one for my father-in-law (#8a can be seen HERE) and one each to my two brothers-in-law. This knife (#8b) goes to Josh. I'm still working on #8c for Dave.

Some Stats:
Length: 12-1/2"
Blade: 6" (tip to choil?)
Steel: 3/16" 1095 (from Kelly Cupples)
Clay-Treated w/ hamon, Flat-Ground w/ tapered-tang (Left darker after FeCl etch)
Handle: Stabilized Amboyna Burl w/ mild steel pins
Guard: 1080 & copper w/ copper/steel mosaic pins. (Mustard Patina antiquing)

I know that there are visible flaws (like the skewed mosaic pins)... but overall, what do you think???
Note: I posted THIS WIP over in the Shop Talk sub-forum of Knife Dogs for anyone who is interested.

very nice. Wow, that WIP thread is the most detailed I have seen yet. Amazing how much you can learn from a single thread.

Thanks Zaph1. I am definitely not the most experienced knifemaker out there... so take anything I show on that WIP with a grain of salt. There is likely a better/faster/smarter way to do most all of it. For good or ill, it's just a record of how I built these knives. However, I'm happy if the WIP was helpful in some fashion... and am certainly willing to answer questions or take advise if folks see something that seems odd or stupid in the way I do things.

I love it Erin. The dark blade and the mustard patina are so nice I might just borrow the idea. :D

"Stop!!! Thief..." :D:p;)

I was hesitant to try the mustard at first, but knew that the amboyna handles needed darker fittings and blade to "work". I used cotton swabs and q-tips to apply the mustard, then let it dry for an hour (or so) before cleaning off with a damp towel. I repeated this two more times before I was satisfied with the results.

I'd love to see photos of any pieces you try this on.
