Hi all

How many of you are also into vintage razors and knives. This is a picture of a couple of my vintage razors and a couple of my knives.

Spyderco Manix2 G-10 plain edge extra large.

Left razor is a 1959 Gillette fat boy

Right is A 1963 Gillette slim

The bottom knife is a more maker.

How many of you are into wet shaving.
I get a much better shave out of my vintage razors then I do any of these new ones in the grocery store.

My current razor handle is a 1934 or so gillette tech open comb. There are a few wet-shavers around although this is one of the quieter sections of the forums.

1960 Fat Boy for the win! I have a few more (a slim, a travel 3-piece Tech, a Lady Gillette that my wife won't use, another Slim), but the Fat Boy is the only one I use. I need to sell the others.

I use straight razors, and make knives. I own around 100 straights and use them all from time to time. I don't buy blades I hone them.

My favourite razor is my Gillette Aristocrat. Very smooth shave.

Not much into knives, vintage or new, but into wet shaving for sure. I really enjoy finding vintage straight razors and putting them back into use. Shaving with a straight has made shaving something I look forward to each day. I also have some vintage and new DEs/SEs that I enjoy using. Favourite vintage DEs would be the Gillette Fat Boy and Gillette open combs and for new it would be the Muhle R41 2013 version and the Merkur 37c slant. Add a brush to my liking and a tallow based soap and I'm good to go.

I had a good time collecting and using these for a couple of years until I grew my beard back.

This is my birth quarter Fat Boy that I had reconditioned and gave to my Dad for Father's Day.

I'm a "wet shaver". My collection contains a 59 Fat as well. Have a Merkur slant, a couple open combs, a Gillette "New Style", unsure of the year, but a GREAT shave. My two favorites are my. 70 Gillette Super Speed, and my Fat. I even have a Schick Krona. Those never caught on like the Gillettes, but a smooth, gentle razor none the less. I haven't used a cartridge razor or canned soap in years. Hopefully I NEVER will again.

JUst starting with a DE recently, using a Merkur Progress. Have a 1966 Slim as will, and will try it once I have worked through more of my blade samples. Also have a 1961 Slim on the way - G4 - which is my date as well.

I'm new to DE Safety Razors, so have really been enjoying the process of learning the whole shaving soap/brush, etc ritual. I've got a Merkur 34c (modern DE razor) and just today received a vintage 1955 Gillette Super Speed in pristine condition that gave me a great shave. I especially love that DE blades are 11 cents each compared to $3-$4 per blade for these contraptions they have today. The DE razor gives just a good a shave if not better and far fewer problems with ingrown hairs, etc. :)
