Knife And Vintage Razors

Actually I live in an older apartment and do use the blade slot. There's a fairly large space in the wall; but I wonder when places get remodeled and the medicine cabinet is replaced...just how many used blades are in there from a few generations of shaving men.

This is a very interesting topic and don't remember what episode it was but the mustache and blade podcast did a whole show on these types of slots in old apartments like in New York. Very very interesting. Thay did talk a little about when the building was remodeled in the wall was opened up and the blades were found.

Yes, I've talked to a couple friends who said they've torn open walls during remodels of older homes and find hundreds or even thousands of blades in the wall between the two studs. They just fall down and sit inside the wall. By the time they're found they rust into clumps or stacks sort of.

Not everyone knows what this slot is. New DE shavers are sometimes amazed when told what that is, having seen it there for years but not knowing why it's there! lol

Wet shaving is the only way to go. I own 6 DE, I SE and 2 Straights. I have no technique for the straight, so once in a while my wife will shave me. But my favorite is my birth quarter Gillette slim adjustable.

I would love to see that episode. I've been dropping the blades in those slots all my life.

If you get on the mustache and blade website and send an email to Douglas Smythe or Ryan Steven Green. I am sure they could tell you what episode this is. I think it was about six months ago. The entire episode was not on this topic but most of it was.

I have remodeled a house that had this. And when I removed the cabinet the space between the studs was about half full of old blades. The house I grew up in had one of these cabinets and my Father used the slot to dispose of his blades. DM
