Knife as a gift - Is it bad luck?

I've been researching pichok knives from Uzbekistan lately - over there they hold a ceremonial and talismanic importance similar to khukris in Nepal, and they have all sorts of traditions and lore about their magical powers.

Anyways, in Uzbekistan a pichok given as a gift from a friend isn't unlucky, it's actually considered to be an extra powerful amulet that protects you from evil and harm and whatnot. In fact if you had a son you'd have to give knives to the fellows who come over and help you prepare the celebratory feast. And when a man got married he'd have to give a knife to the wife's younger brother or cousin, symbolically recognizing him as a family member.
