I promised a college buddy a knife. What should I get her? I'd like to keep the cost around $25

Is she looking for something broadly useful, like an SAK, does she want something with one-hand opening, does she want something with some self defense intimidation factor, or does she want something cute?

Well for women I look for something that looks special as well as being high quality. You can usually find a good deal on a Browning Presentation Lockback. These come with fancy handle materials and are high quality Japanese manufacture. They also come in a presentation case. A novice is likely to recognize the Browning name. It is not a one hand opener. Here's an example of one with a cocobolo handle for under $30.00:

The standard suggestion for a one hand opener with good production values is the Kabar Dozier folding hunters. Not as fancy to look at, but a good using knife.

Do you mean no slipjoints, multitools, or both?

In that case, it's probably going to be hard to find a quality locking folder at your price range. How about a Spyderco lightweight Ladybug? It's compact, it can be found for $25, it's durable, lightweight, and probably the best bang-for-the-buck you can find in that range.

Good luck.

Just don't forget the legend, when you present her....

If she doesn't give you a coin back, your friendship will terminate... :)

CRKT Rollock, Van Hoy Snaplock; Kershaw Chive, Scallion; Spyderco Ladybug, Jester; Kabar Dozier folding hunter

The Spyderco Jester (1 & 15/16" blade) would be a great choice for your lady-friend, as would a Benchmade Mini-Pika (2.90" blade).

Would a BJ count the same as a coin? :)

gb + college buddy....hmmmmm....

haha, seriously, go with the best knife for EDC...the calypso jr.. but you knew that already. the benchmade monochrome is another good choice or the kabar dozier folding hunter.

I second the SOG Blink.

I have one and got one for my wife. Small, thin, easy to open, very sharp, and very "PC".

A Kershaw Chive would be a good choice, they are small, look good and she might value the saftey lock.
