By the way, the Browning Presentation Lockback is smaller than it looks in its picture. It is only 3-inches long when closed and is pretty trim. I think it might really provide a touch of style in the size you want. The blade is AUS-8 and they take a heck of an edge.

You could always tell the website to ship it to your friend's address rather than to yours. You can't gift wrap it that way, but I've certainly done this before.

Generally they accept a "billing address" that is different than the "shipping address". They are supposed to send a "shipping invoice", usually without prices along with the product. They send a receipt or billing invoice to you. You would need to email the web outlet directly and ask them if you are particularly concerned.

You would probably have the best luck contacting a dealer who carries the Ka-Bar Doziers directly, either by phone or email. I imagine that most of them will be willing to make whatever arrangements you want for shipping.

At that price point, I'd go with a Kershaw Vapor. Walmart has them, IIRC $24 for the big 'un and $19 for the small 'un. Nice aesthetics, great EDC size for a lady (Vapor II), and very simple maintenance. You could even make a regular stop every week to check and touch up the edge for her!
