Knife Bevelling

It depends. On folders you almost have to use a jig to hold on to something.
If you're just going for a straight flat grind with a normal drop point design, a jig can help you establish a bevel fairly quickly and accurately.

I learned on a jig but now freehand or sometimes just use the work rest to support my hand.
I tried sliding the blade, I tried using a push stick. Neither one felt comfortable to me.
You have to figure out what works for you. Try different things and don't ever be afraid to change your methods.
If blade was not already HT , you can leave it for grind on steel plate you cut it off ?

Yeah you could leave it on the bar until you cut it, but I've never tried one that way. Grinding the blade is usually one of the last things I do after everything fits right since folders have to be so much more precise with fit up and everything inside the handle.
A fixture like what spalted uses where the jig is actually a temporary handle (if I'm understanding right) would be great if you absolutely wanted to free hand it.

My point was a sliding jig can have it's place for certain grinding styles and to just see what feels right to you.

Hi Tehimton,
Thanks for your kind revert and analysis. I feel i am making some big error which i am unable to trace it out. It may require me a hand holding. Can i upload a knife grinding video in my belt grinder can will you be able to help me out to find the error. By the way what steel are you using ? generally i use c 80 3 or 4 MM or EN31. Is there any alternate available in india for 1095 ?

Waiting for your kind revert.

Regards
R.Prakash.
