Knife breakage examples?

Nakano's mention of the 007 reminded me of the time my cuzzin' flipped his open...the hinge pin slid out and the blade went across the room and stuck in the wall above his buddy's head! Had to hang a poster up so's Ma & Pa wouldn't see...

I broke two knives in my 6 yrs. of daily use/carry; both Spyderco's-one "Snap-it" and one Dragon Fly (Lite).

I took full responsibility for the DF, for I was cutting and prying simultaneously in the cold. Blade broke nearly perfectly in half! Clean break, too!

Now the Snap-it was a dissappointment! I received the knife last x-mas as a gift, and with the kraton, it had promise. I used the knife for less than a week, when I was opening a printer box when the "Snap" got snagged on a shipping stapel(sp). Trying to free the knife resulted in my frustration leading to my bending this HOOK to the point that the knife was locked open-jammed in place. Subsequent attempts to close the knife resulted in my SHATTERING THE WHOLE PIECE!!! Pieces of the unit flew all over my living room. The blade was fine-it was the handle/grip assembly that had failed!

Spydie did replace the knife-in fact with a different one at my request. I wanted a work horse, and they sent me a Native in GIN-1...couldn't go wrong with that! They did send me a letter saying that..."product failure was the result of gross misuse and abuse..." The Cust. Srvc. dept was great though, and replaced the piece with one that we both felt better suied my needs.

This is a big reason why I have stayed with Spyderco's for the past year, while my financial situation has improved. I feel, you can't go wrong with a great product, combined with terrific Cust. Srvc. and awesome product support.

Gee, I'd think there would be a lot more knives that had failed, guess I must be an abuse user.

Broken every flavor of military issue knife.

Broken at least five spydercos, blades, handles, and locks.

Broke a Benchmade 970, cutting open a toilet paper container to free a stuck role. Serious use there.

Ripped pocket clips off a couple of Benchmades and Spydercos.

Broken a plethora of auto springs from over use.

Had plenty of composite rubber handles come off of fixed blades.

Worst was a MT mini SOCOM auto that I let a buddy barrow to open a box and he apparently cut through staples with vigor. Chipped the blade so badly it had to be totally reground.

who hasn't broken a Buck??

Even I have, although I knew prying wasn't recommended, but hey, I was in a jam...

I had a Buck 110 fail on me, resulting in some stitches and a total lack of confidence in lock backs.

Kalindras, nice to see another hand on deck

My cheap tourist khukuri broke chopping small limbs about 1" in diameter. A chunk about 2" long and 1" deep shattered off the blade.

My first D.H. Russel Belt knife was ran over by a lawn mower. The mower blade snaped it cleanly in half.

tuff, I never broke a buck yet, been my constant hunting campanion for many years. model 110 and selector, the 110 I got back in 82 and the selctor some where around 91.

I broke the tip off an Old Timer stockman by dropping in on a concrete floor, and I broke the handle on one of those $20 Atlanta Cutlery Kukris chopping a log. I also have stitches from prying with my Imperial Kamp King's screwdriver (snap!).

Managed to chip a few half-moons out of a Gerber LMF while hunting (deer bone). Refinished the blade and its now sharper and stronger than before. My bad ... sharp knives are not for hacking bone.

I've chipped the blade of an AFCK dressing a deer. It was my fault though. Too lazy to go back and get a saw.
