What oil would you guys recommend for sharpening/ coating my busse knifes with? Also I'm in the market for a good sharpening stone/ ceramic stick to keep a nice razor edge on my busse's ?

I'm aware there is a section for this stuff, but I want feedback from people like us who deal mainly with busse and Infi

Thank you
-Michael

I was just researching this topic today myself. There is a lot of info on the web if you do a search of sharpening INFI. From sandpaper with mouse pad, leather strop/compound etc. Still deciding on what to try myself. But from what I've read, INFI sharpens easily so it's not about removing metal. But polishing the edge, so fine, ultra fine stones, light ceramic etc. that's my .02's input. Maybe a more knowledgable member will give you ( us ) some of their knowledge.
As for protection and coating my blades I like Gibbs penetrating oil, corrosion block and corrosion x. Have had excellent results with those.

Thank you for your input , it is appreciated.
I'm going to order a bottle of Gibbs penetrating oil and give it a try .

For good sharpening stone and ceramic stick take look at Spyderco's stones and sticks.

I have been using this one with some Lansky oil and it works great, i have belt grinders, paper wheels, leather stropps, leather belts, water stones, buffing wheels and DMT's, and it all works great but if i had to choose one of them i would choose the Spyderco combo stone. I also coat my knifes in lansky oil when i put them away but i don't think it's necessary.

Thank you Lennox, I understand the Obsession :) il be coating them when I out them away as well :)

I use a dmt duo fold in fine and coarse folding set and a ceramic stick. That and a old piece of leather with mother mcguires metal polish rubbed on it for a strop. Easy to keep a razor edge at home or the field. For oil I usually use mineral oil since its food safe. Although I have used pretty much any gun oil I happend to have close at hand at the time. Balistol works well too and gives your food an interesting flavor. Keeps fleas off too.

Just did some research based on those posts and I picked up a bottle of ballistol, it looks like some pretty amazing stuff, thanks for the recommendation. Thanks everyone who posted, you guys are great......

I use mineral oil for everything except my guns. It has been working well. Only con is that it does not dry fast. I use to put Rem Oil on my knives, dries well and lasts. Ballistol works really good, but takes forever to dry, and smells horrible. I've also used SuperLube, which is more for threads that rub alot, like in a flashlight, but it does work very well.

I am using Renaissance Wax for protection costing. It leaves a clean and smooth surface. Dirt tends to stick on oily surface and your hand will be oily when you come into contact with the oiled blade. I am happy with the result so far.

If your knives are going to be used in and around food and food preparation then go with Food Grade Mineral Oil. Now for anything non-food you will here a lot of differnt choices. This is purely up to you and the enviroment you live and play in. One of the best blade coverings for the safe queens has been mentioned and that is REN-WAX (Renaissance Wax). If it's around salt-water/swamp I like Eezox. To tell the truth most of the time I have just use Tri-Flow products over the years and have never had a problem. Used Tri-Flow down in South East Alaska out on the island's and NEVER got rust on my guns, so HEY that worked for me. Have also used Sentry Solutions over the years mostly on folders.

Biggest thing is just look at your environment, humidity, rainy, dry, etc etc. Just my .02!!! This could get real long but I'm at work sorry,

Prepare yourself for the smell, some people like it, the majority find it mildly to extremely offensive. The aromatic is a combination of the particular alcohol used to make the oil water soluble and a small amount the oil of some relative of the anise plant. Once that evaporates off (usually takes about half an hour to a day depending on how heavily you slathered it on) it's odorless and tasteless.

Hahaha, I'm not squimish , I work in harsh environments were there is an abundance of unpleasant odors in the air, my motto is "function over fashion" I would rather have the ugliest knife that was understructable over a more aesthetically pleasing one that performed just OK :)

Luckily for us Busse fanatics we have the best of both worlds...

I use ballistol on all my knives and rifles, and guns. Works great, and a can will last a long, long, long time

Is this the correct mineral oil?

Yep, that's it!!! I have coated everything to include the Tigerhide Micarta and Green Linens on my FBM-LE, HOGFSH, right on down to my GW.
This is them hanging and soaking before wiping of the excess.

Mineral oil is commonly used as a laxative, you're body cannot digest it so it just passes through untouched and has a 'lubricating' effect on your bowels..... ;)

My environmental difficulty is sweating my butt off in the desert out here, so I've had some specs of red rust here and there. I'm currently using mineral oil, but it tends to evaporate somewhat readily. I've been thinking about getting some of the Eezox for knives, but haven't heard much about it from people using it.

Are you using the Eezox specifically for knives or the regular gun product? Since it stays dry once the solvent evaporates, does it seem to stay put for a while or require frequent applications when the knife is used?
