Knife care questions

Mineral oil is commonly used as a laxative, you're body cannot digest it so it just passes through untouched and has a 'lubricating' effect on your bowels..... ;)

My environmental difficulty is sweating my butt off in the desert out here, so I've had some specs of red rust here and there. I'm currently using mineral oil, but it tends to evaporate somewhat readily. I've been thinking about getting some of the Eezox for knives, but haven't heard much about it from people using it.

Are you using the Eezox specifically for knives or the regular gun product? Since it stays dry once the solvent evaporates, does it seem to stay put for a while or require frequent applications when the knife is used?

Hey Brother, what up!!! I use the Eezox if I'm heading around the coastal areas or if it's raining and going to be raining a while. Other than that I'll keep Gun oils of some kind on the coated blade(not for food) and mineral oil on the satins.

I was stationed with the 3rd CAV back in 79-80 when they were at Ft. Bliss and I remember sweating my arse off and the old Kabar I was carring then would rust whereever the sweat rings were. Went thru the old Air Force Survival schools in 75-76.

Here is a question for you all... Have you tried coconut oil?

It dries below room temp normally and is supposed to kill rust.

I covered my DSF in it and it had a few rust spots. I will let you know how I go.

Eezox is head and shoulders above anything else I have tried, but it is toxic. I like Ren Wax for blades I might need for food. They both go a really long way too. 4oz of Renwax could last a lifetime, and a 1oz dropper of Eezox could last at least a year.

I believe coconut has some amount of acid in it, And will rust your knife. One time I cut up a fresh coconut and wiped off the juices right after, and it had a patina on it after a few hours.
But someone should correct me

Ballistol here as well.... I bought two 1litre bottles about four years ago and I have hardly used 1/4 of the first bottle. I use it on steel (knives/guns/cars/bike), leather and wood. I think the original formula dates to WW1 !! The smell does not bother me at all and as noted once it drives off it is odorless.
