Can you folks give me a few suggestions on where I can get some knife cases that will be of good quality but not break the bank? I seem to remember seeing this here before, but the search is failing me...

Thanks,

Ahh, I misunderstood. Didn't realize you meant display cases. Sorry.

LOL.... it will be interesting to find out just what the hell he meant, won't it, Butch? Glass or zipper? My money says you're right. Next time you see him, slap him upside the head and tell him to be more specific. :D

Soft zipper cases. Something to hand a knife to a customer in. Display cases are a whole different ballgame. Sorry for not being specific enough :)

Just joking with you, deker. :) Before you buy any cases, find out how much the ones cost that have the elastic bands on the outside for tucking the sheath in. Spangler sent me a knife with one like that. It's a nice touch that lets the collector avoid having to dig through a box of sheaths toi find the match.

The idea of a zip case with each knife is always a good, professional touch and encourages good storage habits.

I've been real happy with cases from Bill's Custom Cases.

Cool, thanks for the pointers everybody. Since my first "sold" knife is going to be going out the door shortly, I want to make sure that the customer gets a complete, professional package. I like the idea of the elastic banded case to hold the sheath. I'll have to see if Mr. Spangler can enlighten me as to where he gets them.

Does Bill's custom just do custom cases? For right now I just need a few and I don't have a logo or anything to add (nor can I really afford an order of a lot of cases).

Thanks for the link to the other thread Steven. I wish I knew why the search crapped out on me earlier.

deker, Mickley also shows Bill's cases on that page I linked above.

Rob, Those cases I have came from Rick Frigault in Canada. He makes all sizes from pocket knife to sword, and has them with or without the sheath straps.Your name can be added for a small price ( you have to have 1000 name tags made up , but he keeps them on hand for future orders). Here is his ad in the for sale forum. Last I heard he was still selling them.

I'd like to second Don's knod to Bill.

I won't put my knives in anything else. His cases are built to truly protect the knife.

They are expensive for a guy just starting out... no doubt.

But if you are putting a $500-$2000 knife in a case you want it protected, and Bill's are quite simply the best.

His service is great too. I called him a short while back apologizing as I forgot to order the cases for my 5 Js test knives. Bill had them to me within 3 days!!!!!!

Now that is fast!

And no, he didn't have all 5 already made up either.

However, with all that said, if you are new to this and not making real finely finished stuff, then I could understand not wanting to fork out $25-45 for a case.

Damn, Nick, now I'm going to have to go apologize to all those $1000+ knives in my collection who've spent their whole life in lesser cases.

They must feel like they've spent all their time poked in the equivalent of some $20 ho. I'll move a couple of 'em on up to the East Side and see if they're any happier. :D

Just think how much happier they'd have been in the more spendy ones!!! ;)

In all seriousness, I used to buy cheapy ones and two of them actually scratched the 2000X finish I had on the bowies inside them. Another one was covered in rust after being in the case for a few weeks.

I've not had any of those problems with Bill's. There very well could be a nice compromise of a case in-between the $5 ones I had, and Bill's, but I do know Bill's are the best of everything I've seen.

Plus, I'm a snob ;) :D
