We here on the W&SS Forum have a long proud history of knife challenges.

Those that think that making and testing survival gear is not part of the wilderness and survival skill set do not understand what has been going on here all these years.

God I miss Brian and Kev, ...and the world before Irene.

I agree with you.

The challenges set out to test the knives are the very same skills showcased in W&SS on a dailly basis.

You'll get no argument from me. After all, this is an outdoor forum that is part of a blade forum, so it is only natural to have evaluations and challenges of knives and how they handle all of our outdoor fun.

I don't agree. We have a dedicated gear thread so that's where it should be. You said those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I would say that those that don't embrace change are doomed to live in the past.

Though I'm not sure why the two forums got seperated. I think the two should be recombined. Splitting the hunting out is fine as there are sensitive people out there who don't wanna look at blood and guts.

I agree with mike. I understand the point of the gear thread, but this is a "special event" sort of thing that we have done in WSS and has generated a following, put new makers on the map, and gotten a lot of people to think about their knives in the outdoors.

The part in bold. I got to see many makers I hadn't seen before through these challenges. I believe that there is more activity in this section, therefore more makers and people will have a opportunity to see it. It's great to see the people we know coming up with new designs, but even better to see people who haven't been known to show how good they are.

I agree 110% Mike.................

Hope we get enough people to agree and combine them again

I'm dumb. Where is the other thread, and why the change?

I hear ya Mike, but you can go to the other forums and see what we are missing out on here.
I liked it when it was together and not seperated for gear and knives and stuff.

Hi guys,

I acknowledge what Big Mike meant to say, but disagree with his words. "Tradition" is a poor excuse to not follow the rules. General gear discussion has earned it's own forum and I feel it's simply an extension of this one. As a "traditional" thread, I was right to move the challenge thread to Outdoor Gear.

On the other hand, a "Forum Event" is a great reason for a deviation. What Big Mike and others expressed is that this challenge is not a typical knife-making-and-testing thread; it is a Forum Event. Based on this interpretation, I stickied the current knife challenge thread at the top of WSS. You can follow this link if you wish: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/874884-where-do-we-do-the-next-challenge

I stickied this thread to show it as an accepted exception to the WSS vs. OG rule. An event should stand out from the others as well as discourage others from creating numerous similar threads in the general discussion of WSS. This thread is a Special Event, therefore it is allowed. As this planning thread becomes a build thread, becomes a test thread, etc, I will unsticky and retire the old thread and sticky the new thread.

Again, general gear discussion belongs in Outdoor Gear and other knife and gear threads will be moved to where they need to go. I do hope that this clears up the recent thread movements without ruffling too many feathers.

On the subject of combining the WSS and OG forums again, I'd say it's highly unlikely. But this is the wrong forum to express your opinions to Spark. Please take that discussion to the Tech Support General Q & A Site Feedback & More forum.

Thanks all

Yo Andy, I wouldn't go that far my friend,

...dumb no, you are smart enough to make damn fine knives,

...but it looks like the thread is now a W&SS sticky,

....who knew bitching would pay off.

That's cool TH. Thanks for the post.

Dang Andy I just noticed that you hit 14k posts. You need to get off the web and back in the shop bro. LOL.

Yea, but they were all before going full time. Now that I work for myself I hardly post at all.
