Knife collecting - a lonely experience?

Just had a coworker ask about " that sweet looking knife " on my belt.
I showed it to him and he instantly recognized the name Buck stamped in my 113.
Still one of those people who doesn't really have a great familiarity with quality knives but I think I can convert him.
I'll have to see if I've got a decent unwanted knife around he may want.

There is a few coworkers into knives and one i talk to regularly with about the hobby. He carries daily and appreciates the same stuff i do so we are always comparing EDCs and talk about whats new on the market and what we are considering next. he has a nice collection also and rotates often like I do so we share lots of different models. We have done some trading and buying/selling between each other as well and i am grateful for the shared interest. I have made some new blade brother friends through deals here and FB groups that we talk knives weekly. Both are 2-3 hours away in austin and dallas areas (im in houston, texas) so i imagine we will
end up getting together at some point to hang out. My family doesnt understand my obsession but knows i get enjoyment from knives and i am happy im able to indulge. Finally I am thankful for this forum and it is my main source of "kniving" as my wife calls it lol.

I had this problem for years.

None of my old friends are into knives or the outdoors or anything like that. They still seem to be into the same old urban, staying up all night, getting drunk in bars/night clubs kind of lifestyle as they've been since their late teens/college days. I've tried to get them into the same cool hobbies that I have, but it's hard, they don't get it. My knife collecting has also had to give way to my aspirations of becoming a knife maker in recent years, which also got me into bush crafting, hiking, foraging, wood working, bronze casting and various other crafts, which also recently got me involved in Cowboy Action shooting, where you meet a lot of people that are more like minded.

I guess my point is, that even though I will always be there for my old friends, you also kind of need to meet new people who do share the same interests, which is easier to do if you extend your knife interest beyond just buying a lot of knives and putting them in a pile.

So my friend really likes small knives...
I ordered a ZT 0022 to check it out. It is a tiny knife...but perfect.
It is like a model of an actual ZT and the action, Fit and finish, centering,
lock up, just amazing. As I flipped it I laughed and laughed...holy cow
it is an EPIC tiny knife. Hilariously it comes in a normal huge ZT box.
I gave it to him today and said "Merry Christmas".

He loved it. I knew he would. He would never buy it...but I knew
he would like it.

I have been alone for more than 10 years but now a friend also is into knives
Than is great!
We trade knives, share experiences and preferences ... great experience, especially when it is a (very) good friend

I would like to have more friends into knives , but after all one is the beginning of many :)

A guy once recognized my PM2's Lnych clip when the knife was in my pocket. Surreal. He owned a crossfit gym and EDC'd a para 3 lightweight

No one I know gives a rat's ass about knives. They all like guns but I have moved on to knives.

Would be nice to enjoy hobby with close friend. I envy the Birdshot couple.

I like guns too but have no shooting buddies. It is just as well, it is expensive.
I go to the range to shoot my pistols sometimes and almost always strike up
conversations...which is ok.

I think knife guys seem rarer because we don't tend to gather at places like
a range. That makes it harder to meet like minded people.

I'm lucky to know few people who are into knives.

One non knife guy bought Drop Forged Hunter after I showed it to him too LOL. He now also uses it for EDC.

Where did everyone go?

I haven't found anyone local to me who is really into knives.

Folks on the forums are the only people who seem to have the same degree of interest as I do.

I think a lot of people own and carry knives, but they are not really "knife guys".

Well I'm not true "Knife guy" either then.

I only have two, I'm not interested into customs, I have no interest to collect or buy more than I need either.

My coworkers appreaciate a good knife, some of them have one or two multi tools. I know few people who own a one or max 2 knives, but that's about it.
Just one guy stands out, he has between 5 and 10 knives that he usually never uses.

Other then the prior owner of my place of employment, no one else around me either. He was a member of the Spyderco collectors club.

I'd be happy 2b your friend. ;)

I have two cousins that own Gerber, SOG, Buck fixed blades for hunting along with custom Bowie’s they don’t use. I have friends that collect Quality folders, mainly because they get one or two new models to carry each year. I haven’t came across anyone yet with my drive for the hobby, lol.
