Knife collecting and phases

Well, we can fast forward through the first "three score and ten" yrs. Didn't do much with knives. Maybe a fixed-blade hunting knife or two.

A couple yrs ago, bought a nice BM 690 and then a Spydie Caly3. Now, I see all these new steels on the market, so I'm buying folders in the $200 range. BM 755 and 806 AFCK, Spydie Manix2 and Para2 with super-steels.
Not done yet. I'm having fun.

I started out personally some chinese-made balisongs. My uncle previously gave to me many moons ago a german-made throwing knife and a SAK or two.

After I realized how unpractical balis were for me (can't carry them in my neck of the woods), I purchased my first quality knife, Kershaw Skyline from a brick and mortar shop a half an hour or so down the road. Talked to the man for a while, and learned lotsabout steels. A week or so before, my friend showed me his RAT 1 and I was surprised how sharp a knife could actually be (slicing paper into shreds became my favorite hobby).

I didn't like Spydercos at first, I thought they were ugly! Buuuuuut, I bought a Persistence.. and a Lum after that.. a Caly 3.5 further down the road, and a couple of Delicas (and I'm still waiting on my blue tenacious!!!!).

Now, I'm currently interested in slip-joints. I would love to get my hands on a Peanut or Medium Stockman, though I'm actually quite scared of the thought of patinas at the moment.

I have yet to buy a fixed blade; I'm dying for an Izula or ESEE4.

I started out with SAKs as a Boy Scout.
As an adult I got into Tacti-cool knives (Smith&Wesson, CRKT, Winchester mostly from Wal-Mart or Big 5)
Then I got into Spyderco
Bought sprints and expensive knives
Narrowed it down to what works and is cost effective
I'm not a collector but a user who only needs 1-2 knives.
