Knife Collectors,do you only collect one brand?

I like collecting knives for a lot of companies. Here is a partial list of brands I've owned and used:
Spyderco
Benchmade
Kershaw
Emerson
Victorinox
GEC
Shrade (not the Chinese production)
Buck
ZT
Cold Steel
Opinel
Busse
BRKT
Scrapyard
ESEE
Becker
Chris Reeve
Strider
Rick Hinderer

I buy what I like. That being said I mostly like Spyderco and find myself lusting after and chasing down discontinued models. I did just acquire my first CRK. A Wilson Combat Umnumzaan. I don't know if that counts as collecting in the traditional sense

I own about 300 or so knives at this point and they are a various lot from a wide variety of brands and prices. Everything from inexpensive Rough Riders to CRK to mid-tech to full customs with some oldies-but-goodies thrown in for good measure. I typically buy knives that appeal to me for whatever reasons and that means that I wind up with several from each brand. That said, I do collect some specific knives:

  • Skylines
  • Blurs
  • Peanuts

Currently, Spydies and ZT are in my cross-hairs. Subject to change in a split-second. :D

I am new to this, but I collect from multiple makers. I find ones that produce stuff I like and then look for those. I more than just one knife from some makers I really like. It's cool if you collect just one maker, but for me, what makes it interesting is to see how different makers approach and solve various design challenges with their work.

If its a fixed blade w/ no serrations and carbon steel, name no matter to me.

Huh, I guess I'm a fanboy then...

I didn't mean "fanboy" in a negative way! Maybe I used the wrong word, lol.

I just don't see many people with a bunch of rare/discontinued kershaw's, bm's, etc.

Spyderco is one of the tried-and-true company's out there, so don't get me wrong!

Really I go through phases of brands. I find one, and concentrate on it for a bit, then something else will catch my eye.

Earlier this month was cold steel, now I'm building a Esee collection.

I don't think I could box myself in to one brand only. I like variety.

Yea...this is where I am at as well, but I have been volleying between ZT and Spyderco and I am so okay with that haha

I'm not a collector. If I had the disposable income, I might. If I did that, I would probably throw the money almost exclusively at Spyderco and ESEE. I like some other stuff, but those brands really connect with me. Manix 2, Tenacious family, Caly 3, Sage family, Domino, 3, Izula 2, Laser Strike, 6... So many home runs. In contrast, I only like a few Benchmades, ZTs, etc.

Spyderco,BK&T,Ka-Bar,Cold steel,ESEE,CRKT,

I love spydies and Beckers but I'm open to other brands

No, your fine. I may very well be a fanboy, its just that I try not to be. I do really like Spyderco knives though

I go on a knife by knife basis. Some designs appeal to me, some don't. There are more brands that I stay away from than I collect though. I own a Direware S-90, but I also just picked up a CRKT Liong Mah Eraser... I just like knives... brands and price mean nothing to me.

Me too! I collect whatever appeals to me, however, I think it's more the type of steel rather than the brand of knife for me.

I look for pattern, then brand. I like large blades, so large toothpicks and folding hunters and liner locks are where I'm concentrating, then I'm trying to get most of the major makers (not Chinese). Started with Case, now have Boker (German), Camillus, and a Queen on the way. Looking to add a GEC #12, a Schrade 127UH, and maybe a Fight'n Rooster, Ka-Bar folding hunter, Miguel Nieto stylet (Spanish), Opinel #12 (French), a Muela Navaja (Spanish), and a Falcon fish tail (Italian). I've heard to stay away from Bear & Sons and the American brands that go overseas (like Remington, Colt, Buck, and others).

Any other suggestions on what I need to complete this collection? I should note most of what I'm getting is between $20 and $60 and I should avoid expensive hand made knives unless I want my wife to disembowel me with it.

If I picked what I had the most of, then yes, Spyderco. My Millie count is at 9. I have 7 in rotation, and 2 true safe queens. My M4, and my M390CF are in rotation, but I have one of each BNIB in my safe. I guess I "collect Millies. I truly love that knife.

I also have several other brands as well. Couple Hinderers, several Survive! Fixed blades. I love knives more than brands....mostly. :)

I buy more spydercos than anything but tend to gift them to friends so I only currently own four. Just think they outperform most other brands for the money. I also like essee for fixed blades and various traditional folders. Will eventually get rid of my zt350 and Bradley kimura not because they aren't good or even excellent knives but because they've never see my pocket .
