Knife collectors top 3 "other" interests

During the 30 years that I am into knives, I have noticed something funny!

Those who love knives first, love Martial Arts and Guns too, for that matter those who love Martial Arts first, they love Knives and Guns too! To make it complete, those who love Guns first, they love Martial Arts and Knives too!

I am just curious if other forum members have noticed the same thing.

Regards. ;)

Completely agree. We also seem to love good watches, good cameras, and motorcycles as well.

Give me Strider, a P7, a Leica with some b/w film, a Sinn on my wrist, and a BMW between my legs and I'm happier than a pig in ****. :D

John...

Knives - yes.
Martial arts - no.
Guns - like to shoot, and used to be an instructor. Not currently involved.
Motorcycle - yes. Suzuki Volusia for now
Watches - not really, but I do own one.
Photography/cameras - yes. Minolta X700, SLR, 35mm.

I've noticed that knife-folks also tend to be dog-people.

I was never really into any of things mentioned, but as soon as I began getting into knives the rest actually sparked a bit of interest in me as well.

Martial Arts, knives, guns, dogs and working out... Not necessarily in that order. Not into bikes or watches. Both my PU's (parental units) used to be photographers at one time or another but for some reason I'm not terribly interested.

Ok it seems to become an top 5 other interest topic:

Here we go:

1 - Martial Arts: Tenaga Kembar, Muay Thai Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts
2 - Knives: Sebenza, Benchmade and Spyderco
3 - Guns: Colt "King Cobra"
4 - Watches: Rolex "GMT Master" and Breitling
5 - Photography/cameras: Hasselblat.

Finally, I do own a great dog and I am proud to call him my best friend.
It is an Rhodesian Ridgeback also known as the Lion Hound, great dog!

Yep, I guess we knive collectors come from the same planet!

Regards.

I like knives... a lot. One could say I love knives.

Guns are ok. I enjoy shooting a Glock every now and then, or smashing beer bottles with my BB pistol, but I can take 'em or leave 'em. I really enjoy setting up targets in my living room and plinking them with an airsoft pistol.

Marial arts? nah. Not really my thing. I know how to fight from being shorter than average... I know how to take care of myself.

Dogs... I love dogs, and cats. I'm more of a cat person, because cats are tactical and more covert than dogs. In the perfect world, I'd have two cats to keep each other occupied and a dog... probably a black lab, to take out in the woods hiking or just to play around with.

I can live without watches... I don't own one in fact. I was an English major and we have no concept of time, or deadlines or any of that good stuff. Watches would only provide more stress.

I don't do martial arts, but I've always thought they were cool and I enjoy watching martial arts events on TV if I happen to catch them.

Photography, oh yeah, I have more money in photography gear than knives: Leica, Hasselblad, Pentax 6x7, Rollei TLR 6x6, Canon EOS, Canon FD, etc.

As far as watches, I love watches, and I'd love to own some expensive ones, but I would rather spend what money I have on knives or camera equipment. I have a Surefire Flash light, and many other flashlights, so add that to the list. Pretty much anything that qualifies as a gadget I'm into, and I think that's true for all of us. We just like gadgets! :) Knives, multitools, cameras, watches, flashlights, etc. I also used to be real into high end pellet rifles, just haven't had much time to shoot them lately. I guess that falls into the gun category. :) I'm pretty much falling into the same boat as the rest of you. :)

I used to be into martial arts when I was younger but that has fizzled off and out.

Guns oh yeah. I'm actually a bit more of a gun knut than a knife knut I think.

I like carving, working outdoors, landscaping and gardening. Love old trucks from the 50s and have restored several. Currenty driving a 1955 International Harvester R110 pick up. I also love Pinzgauers. Not the horse or the cattle. The Steyr Puch Pinzgauer. Great unsung heroes and reliable work horses in x army trucks. www.swissarmyvehicles.com if it strikes your fancy. Can't say enough good about these trucks.

humm.. i do boxing, horse-back riding and photography - which i always have a tendency to relate my camera as a "gun" and I "load" the ammo.. um film into it. :D

I'm an oddball here. I hate martial arts and I only have one gun (for killing terrorists.) My other two favorite things are running/bodybuilding and adventuring around the globe. (Taking trips, rock climbing, etc.) I'm a big Star Wars fan but I don't like science fiction or I don't dress up like a wookie on Halloween. See, I told you I'm an odd ball!

Besides knives, my other interests are:
Deer hunting
Fishing
Day hiking (walking in the woods)
Bird watching
Reptiles and amphibians
Nature
Watches
Pens
Guitar playing

Paul

No one has mentioned pens yet.... :D

I'm going to move this thread to Gadgets & Gear; that's where we talk about everything other than knives.

I like knives, guns, and martial arts, but none of them are particularly dominant in my life, I'm not a majorly serious martial artist, don't own many guns and can't shoot a squirrel in the left nut from 100 yards with my left hand while blindfolded, and I'm relatively new to the knife world.

I like the results of working out and running, but don't particularly enjoy the activities themselves... though I still do them. Reading, philosophy, politics, community service, computer gaming, watching the cops administer Breathalyzers on the street this last weekend for Little 500... that sort of thing.

1. Martial Arts (Iaijutsu, Jojutsu(don't like it, just have to do it))
2. Mountain Biking(Just went for a 10 mile warmup today, Giant NRS2, Cannondale M400)
3. Billiards (low ranked APA player, Pechauer, Meucci Sneaky Pete)

4. Watches(a bunch), Pens, Lighters
5. GUNS, many, but not a collector, just a shooter.

Best Regards,

Steven Garsson
