Knife Color for Soldier in Iraq

Color won't make a bit of difference unless the unit he is in has a rule on it. Check with him to see if the unit has a rule on knife colors. If they don't then just get the color you or him wants.

How will he wear it? I wear mine on my belt or use a pocket clip, so either way my ACUs hide it. A bright color may not be a bad idea. If you get him a tan one, it might be hard to see in the sand.

BTW, I purchased an Emerson CQC-10, and it's stood up against all the dust and sand, although I don't go out on missions outside the wire much, so that with a grain of sand : ).

Where's he going, if you don't mind me asking?

I carried a RC-3 with Green Micarta handles and Tan sheath for several tours. It worked Great!!!
-Clips on the sheath allowed me to move it quickly from Molle gear to belt. When carried on my flak vest I could get to it easily whether I was in a vehicle or walking.

Bottom line...focus on the functionality. Thanks also to your son for his service and to you for your support of the military.

Bro i am in Iraq right now and i have a tan RC4 and to be honest the color dosnt really matter. I also carry a black crkt and the color thing is not as important as the quality just think we have to wear reflective belts at night, so a quality knife is more important than the color of the blade or handle or sheath, just remember all of our weapons are black and what are you trying to blend into like an urban enviroment or do you think he is just going to be out in the middle of the desert. Imagine iraq cities like bedrock from the flinstones just dirtier. Hope this helps man tell your son to stay hard in the yard and its only a year and it goes by faster than he thinks and the worst part is Kuwait so once he gets through that it is pretty much smooth sailing unless he is military intelligence then he is going to work 14 hours a day everyday. My last day off was September 26 2009 and I think this Friday i am going to get my first half day.

Make your own decision. Your old enough and smart enough to know what your own son needs. Shit you're his Dad. pick something and he will love it, not only because its going to be a great knife, but its from his Father. A most meaningful tool to give to a son.
