I hae noticed an interesting trend in the knife vs knife comparisions in these forums. It seems that easily more than half of them are _______ vs Busse. And most of them are constructed so that the very best aspects of the other brand in question are selected as the basis for comparision. Interesting. I personally think that this says a lot about Busse and, whether intended or not, is a great compliment.

Personally, if I could have only one for all tasks, there is no question as to what manufacturer it would be.

Note: I have mentioned no other manufacturers here and do not want this to become a "bashing" post.

MikeH---Busse makes the Finest combat knife, period. IMO.
Research and buy and try different knives but you'll end up with a Busse. Maybe more than one.

busse knives are premium and kinda in a league of their own, but i wonder if in years to come if they will be as collectible and as valuable as randall's are today?

randall's will soon have a century of making under their belt and headed toward the third generation.

just a interesting thought provoking statement...

I like Busse's, so I only buy Busse's for the most part. When I find something that works, that I like, I stick with it.

I do enjoy listening in on a good _____ vs. Busse thread.

not bashing at all....I have been to Orange Blossom. I have a pic of me and Gary Randall and of Jason grinding a knife....absolutely a legendary company.

but,

Even after all this time.... they still dont have a warranty that comes anywhere close to that of Busse.

THis is the main reason I sold all of mine....I was just affraid to use em cause I knew they wouldn't get replaced if broken....afterall, you can only have so many shelf knives:foot:

IMHO

I remember my first Randall, a 5" Model 2. I traded a Bernardelli .380 POS for it at a gun show. That knife is still sitting on my dresser, it's one I'll never get rid of, but I'll likely never use again. I have a Model 12 Big Bear Bowie on order, it's my last one. I ordered it with stainless, scalloped brass cap and collar, and black micarta. It'll go in a case and be mounted on my wall. My Randalls just aren't users any longer.

Busses, on the other hand, cry out to be used hard. All the purchasing I've done over the past couple of months has been to find the perfect one. I've decided that since it doesn't exist I'm going to have it made from an existing model. I'm photoshopping what I want from a picture of my Batac and I'm going to have Ban create me a one-off perfect carry knife. I'll be selling off some of my knives that aren't what I want because with a few exceptions (like a mint BAIII) I can't see having a Busse sitting around collecting dust when there's someone out there who needs it.

As for the comparisons, the OP is right: They say a lot about Busse. I believe Freud called it penis envy.

From what I hear Jerry makes a pretty good fixed blade....................

I agree with MikeH... Busse compares favorably against even the "nichiest" aspects of quality and performance from any other maker. It's why we use so many superlative terms around here

For every use and size I have great alternatives for Busses such as Fällknivens (survival), Extrema Ratios (combat) and Fehrmans (heavy duty choppers), but no matter how much I like the other knives - I even regard Fehrmans higher than Busses when it comes to fit & finish, edge retention, balance and grip - I would NEVER replace my Busses for other knives. Busses do magic somehow.

Are you serious? Don't you know anything about MikeH?

I'm going to have to go with this. I did exactly what this says, and ended up exactly where this says. Right down to the "more than one."

MikeH---I meant no disrespect. I hope you know that. I'm a newbie HOG.
