First of all not that it has slowed me down any, but. Does anyone else think that knives have gotten a bit expensive? Has the pursuit of hi-tech and the "wow factor" placed the using knife out of reach of the users?

Quite the contrary. I think that the trickle-down effect has worked wonders for less expensive knives. Look at what great knives are in the $50 and under range. The M-16 series from CRKT and Kit Carson, many Spydercos, etc...

Not at all. What's your budget? There are more good knives to choose from now than any time in history and in all price ranges.

Overall, knife prices are very reasonable, especially considering the advances made in manufacturing and type of steel now available. I do think that some of the tactical stuff is overpriced, however.

I have noticed that the knives that I want are getting more expensive.

the price of a top of the line knife has gone up drastically. however, so has the quality and usefullness of a top of the line knife. years ago, a buck 110 with its "high carbon steel" was top of the line. today, we have many knives that combine incredible blade steel, good tough handles, strong locks, practicality, light weight and good looks. so all things considered, i think we're getting more for our money now than before.
