Knife De-Acquisitions

Curious what kind of numbers you guys sre talking about. I would guess I have somewhere between 40-50 knives.

That’s a good ballpark for me too. Though were I to dig out all the SAKs & stuff in various nooks and crannies it might be more than that.
I dare not go through the process of formally counting ‘em!

I'm 45 and I'm just about to put 98% of my collection up for sale. I've given away more blades than I can count as well. Over the past few years I've acquired two pieces that are about as perfect for me as I can imagine, and that was the goal in the first place. I never intended to accumulate the number I have.
What are those two favorites?

Ya lost me at Imelda. 😂

So we talking in the hundreds?
Yes... I have really cut back on knife purchases to almost nothing in the last couple of years, but part of that is finding it harder to justify buying more at this point, despite there being knives out there I still want. I can live with not having every knife out there and having it now.

20ish folders (give or take) and 2 fixed. My collection is mostly high end knives ($300+) or customized Spydercos. I've sold and given away a lot of knives over the past 13 years I've been collecting. All but my Alan Davis custom are users in some capacity, which sits in my safe. I have no qualms generally about using a $1000 knife, but the Davis is really just designed as a show piece.

Just gotta get good at balancing your hobbies. I've gotten pretty good at it the last couple of years, selling stuff i genuinely dont want that much and buying a bit less. I've sold off probably 300 items across various hobbies in the last 2 years and cant say i genuinely miss any one particular item, outside of a couple of knives i can easily buy again.

I dunno. I never counted, but maybe over a hundred. All mine were bought to be users, and even though only a few actually get used regularly, I still buy a new one now & then. I gift a knife occasionally, but don't sell any. I have three boys & a son-in-law that will be getting my knives & guns when I'm gone.

I’ve probably got over 200 now. It doesn’t take much for them to add up quick, I’ll see a fixed blade maker on here that I like and suddenly I’ll have four of their knives. Shows don’t help either, I’ve got four knife shows booked in the next three months…

I’ve got a master list of everything I’ve got, and it’s all insured on a separate policy. I don’t consider them an investment, in that they aren’t intended to appreciate in value like an investment does, but they do have some significant monetary value.

I don’t view them as a problem or a burden. A handful of them could pay the mortgage if they needed to.

Dibs!!! PM me with a list when you're ready to sell. ;)
