This would be my first knife doing the blade and everything. I just finished a knife kit the other day but other then that no experience. I plan on using simple tools, files, dremmel, elbow grease...ext. need opinions on design. It is really not original almost a clone of the Gerber gator clip point, (I lost one this year) but made a few mods. Was thinking 1084 for steel, wood handle. Trying to keep it simple. Not a clue on how many pins to have or what size. Thanks for looking.

Good basic design pins are really up to you. You can do three like you have or move the first one towards the butt a bit more and use two pins. make a cardboard cutout and see how it feels in your hand as if you were using it as a knife. You might want to modify the handle a bit or might be just fine. Remember too when you put the scales on it, it will be thicker feeling in your hand. Once you're happy with it get some steel and keep us posted.

I would try to smooth out the angle where the blade turns into a clip point. Otherwise I think it looks good. :)

Looks like a great starter and a good user. You might find that the general shape will change a bit as you go. I agree with Erdbeereis. You might soften the transition to to clip point, but otherwise looks great. If you can, make a handle from scrap wood to test the feel and come up it the ideal thickness. Go for it!

Do I need to make the finger grove deeper to create more of a guard? What do you all think?

make one of each and see which works better for you and your application.

Don't overthink it, you already have a design that is good. Just get to it!

The pin layout you have is fine, size is up to you.

I wouldn't worry about drawings much at this point, drawing and sculpting are two different ballgames.
