Knife designs free for newbies

I'd be happy to send you some CD's and enough return postage for mine, I'd also be glad to host the images at my site, I've started putting together various tutorials, and free resources for knife makers and blacksmiths and this would fit the vein quite well.

It would be great if somebody like chiro woudl get the CD so they coudl host the drawings, allowing more people to get them without incurring any extra costs for Reg.

by the sounds of it we'll soon have enough offers that everyone can host maybe 10 meg, mirrored around so even if one guy goes down, his share of the info is repeated elsewhere still. and someone has a centralised page listing who has what part of the info...

eg... Reg hosts the index, Steven Roos takes bowies, I take folders, Ysforge takes hunters and so on..... that would be fairer on DL and bandwidth quotas.

Wow you are a great buch of guy. Thank you for showing such an intrest.
I hope my images live up to daves High praise. I have no double Lloyds work was top rate. He was Guild member. I am just aware I did not clean up the images of his drawings that well. 10 years of bench grime.

I have recieved some emails from guys I have sent the discs to some indicating they will be able to host some of the images.

I can lift heavy things but I am not to bright when it comes to hosting and linking and sites. I see more of you guys have asked for discs and offered to host some images. I will wait a couple of weeks untill the current batch has had a chance to arrive and get looked at.

I appriciate offers to cover costs by a number of people wanting the disc but
to have a couple free and then start charging just looks like a scam.

I am happy for anyone who is getting a disc to copy it and give to anyone else and web out that way . Everyone give on to the next guy that way the cost is only 1 cd and one postage. No profit Just makers helping makers and the memory of Lloyd HARDINGS work being passed on.

Again sorry to any of you who sent me an email and I was not able to help.

I have no desire to make a profit from another mans work.

I'd be glad to host a few hundred meg of images, and set up a dedicated sub directory, something like maybe; www.lloydhardings.ysforge.com. (this link isn't connected to anything yet)

I'd only link it to the other free help pages and tutorials that are on my site. (and other sites hosting the rest of the images) I have 5gb per day of bandwidth, and currently use less than 1% of it, so that wouldn't be a problem.

Thank you for all the offers to host Guys. I have sent a couple of extra copies of the disc to those offering to host. Who were not in the original 5 offer. I don't want to put any individual under pressure to do anything. So when the resipients get a copy they can reply at their own liesure and advise they are going to do what ever they feel comfortable doing and have the equipment and expetise.

Whatch this space in about 2 weeks and see what happens. It takes about 10 days in the post so lets go. I would be happy to see a couple of knives displayed on the forum if anyone copies his designs or adapts them. That would be a great tribute to Lloyd. I know Dave Larsen has made a knife infuenced by Lloyds style it was a beauty.
I appreiciate the tribute that paid to Lloyd.

I have no problem with the Idea of anyone using his designs to make knives and make money. I fact I hope they do. I also know his sone was keen to help and encourage other makers. However the designs on disc I would like to see distributed for free to all who are interested.

Thank you again all who replied.

Dave I would be happy to have you here for a hammer in any time. I am not planing on dying any time in the next 3 or 4 decades so who knows perhaps one day.

Thanks to all who are putting forth the effort to make these designs accessable and especially to Mr. Harding's son, who has generously made them available.

I'm in. I have plenty of webspace, and access to $10 a month hosting. I can buy a domain for under $15, as well as copying the disc, and sending it out to anyone that I talk to that wants to get into it. I know one of the biggest challenges I faced getting into this was coming up with unique designs. Taught me plenty, but I know I would have appreciated a break like this. Let me know what I can do.

I just got the CD today, and I'm speechless. The note by Mr. Ellery was very touching, and warmed my heart. I told Mr. Ellery i would be able to host early on via a web page if he was interested, and I'm going to contact him about site layout etc. again now.

For now I can transfer the CD via AIM or mIRC, just IM me at slqer and get on the que. I'll also put the files in my AIM shared files folder, so all you have to do is right click my name and click on "get file." for IRC just meet me at the #bladeforums.com chat on the server irc.noo.bz

edit: oh yeah Mr. Ellery, I'm Aaron. :)

Just got my CD also, and there are some super designs on it. I've only browsed through about 1/5th of it and came accross this little honey. LLoyd was a very talented individual. Thank you Reg for allowing us to get to know him.

Mine arrived in the mail about 15 minutes ago :) Love his Daggers.

This is an Excellent resource for newbies.

from the quick browse i took it seems to be all pics except for the two .docs in the "about the man" folder.

I might if I have time draw up a quick .doc on different metals, quench temps, recommended quenching mediums, etc for some of the common beginners metals like 5160, 52100, 1085 and so on. and add that to the copies I send on.

:) I'll be in town sometime later in the week and will pick up some CD-writes if I can grab the time out of a busy schedule.

Hello I'm new here and just became intrested in making knives. If I could get a link to where these designs are posted(if they are) that would be great.
thank you very much for any reply,
Stuart B.

Mr. Ellery, are the designs still available? If so I would very much like a copy. Thanks for taking the time to do this.David Wesner AKA Trapperwez

Aaron, Kiwi, Matlock, Dan thanks to all of you for helping spread these images around. Tapperwez once these guys get the links up and running you and anyone else who wants to get insperation can use them either direct copies or altered to you own style.

Adding additional information of heat treating and such would be a great Idea.

In the folder that holds the old web page there are a couple of magazine articles about Lloyd.

I have owed a forum member Hillbilly Chuck a knife for ages. I have desided to
make him Lloyds design for a skinner it is skinner 014 it is one of his early designs and is reminisent of many knives of that time. I think it is from the eighties.

WHen I was scanning the drawings many were on the back of advertising flyers Dated because of the offers on them. Once scanned I gave all the drawings in a couple of lever arch files back to his son to be part of his collection. So I can't easilly check the dates of the designs anymore.

Again thank you to those hosting images.

Reg, I just got mine in the mail a minute ago. I haven't even had the time to look at 'em yet.
Just a heads up and a thank you!

I'm starting to upload the drop points. give me a few days and there will be a basic set of pages with 5 or so pics on each page full sized.

given a week or so of free time I'll look at thumbnailing them and making an index page :)
