Knife Designs of the Masters, with Jerry Busse

Did anyone go to this thing?
i didn't go to the seminar. Jerry talked a little bit about it it prior. He said he wasn't sure exactly what he was going to be talking about, but figured scotch would be part of the discussion:thumbup:

I went. It was FANTASTIC! Jerry has a future in stand-up comedy if this knife thing doesn't work out for him. Very interesting hearing about the theory and philosophy behind the designs.

Jerry is a true innovator who changed the knife world with his INFI steel. He still does not get the recognition that he deserves.

I wish it was taped, there was too much good stuff.

- chopping mechanics
- Bio-mechanics of grip angle
- Coating choices
- handle choices (natural vs synthetic)
- Edge geometry choices
- Use of extra steel from larger knives to make smaller knives
- D-guards
- knuckle guards
- heat treatment
- cryo treatment
- axes/hatchets
- serrations
- grinds (flat v. convex v. hollow)

... and I had to leave early to buy my knives so I missed the last 30 minutes!

I had a great time looking back at some of the old stuff from before my time. I am really blessed to have all that info at my finger tips everyday.

Like Vox said earlier, it was fantastic. I would recommend it for any Busse collector, user, or those just curious about what separates them from the rest. Oh, and any aspiring knife maker could really benefit from this seminar. Hope to see it again next year.
