I might be making a documentary about knives and knife enthusiasts. I would like to know if there is anyone on the forum who lives in Erie County NY who would be interested in being interviewed, and possibly showing off some of their collection. Only what you feel comfortable with. I want to stress that this is only in planning stages at the moment and I'm trying to find out if this is possible. There is no guarantee that this will actually work out.

I wouldn't be interested in an interview, but I would be interesting in watching a documentry about knife enthusiasts. It may also help to cut down on some sheeple beliefs.

That's actually one of the reasons I want to make it. To show knife users as well rounded individuals.

In that case you better be very careful deciding which member you pick to interview...;)

I can see it now, "Now this here one's shavin'... ow, darn it." :D

Just kidding... I'd be very interested in seeing it too. If you can seriously put something together that helps with the bad image some people have of us, I'm sure you'll see plenty of support here.

If I had a collection worth showing and a family that wouldn't freak out when I brought them out all at once, I'd be willing to help you, but, alas, we commuting college students were doomed from the start.

Need help with anything else, PM me.

I have done television spots in the past. They are no big deal if you can interest the person directing the shoot in the artistic and cultural signifigance of the work. A good bit of patience helps too.

I try to walk the director through the process first before the filming starts and suggest best camera angles especially during grinding when the sparks are flying........directors love seeing sparks.

On the day of the shoot I have several of the same model in different stages of production so I can swap out during the shoot and provide continuity without delays for cutting handle materials. epoxy drying, leather work and such.

Always emphasize the artistic, and historical aspects of the process, this goes over well with non knife watchers.

I'd be willing to participate. I'm in Ohio and thus would only be able to interview via phone, probably. However, I think I could give a perspective that falls in line with your stated intent for the documentary. Keep us posted and thanks for even trying to attempt this. An earnest documentary on "Knives and Knife enthusiasts" is needed. There are number of doc's about "how a knife is made", "life of a knifemaker", "modern day sword making", "authentic, old time knifemaking", etc. And that's a good thing - I love 'em. BUT, there is none that I can recall that focuses on the modern day knife user, afficianado. I think the only documentaries out there that touch on this shine a negative light on knives in general in identifying them with crime, as a weapon. The knife industry has been booming for a couple decades now and continues to grow and diversify. Yet, "Knife Crimes" aren't booming. That alone speaks volumes of the consumers - the knife enthusiasts. Hey, maybe that could be a lead-in???

Keep us posted, Locust. Keep it straight, true and objective and I'm sure you will have more than enough support in this community.
