I am in my second run of this... I see it as a natural evolution of the collecting hobby. Its almost like maturing. The first time it happened to me it was fixed blades. I had so many, most of which never even got used, that I couldnt find anything that I liked. I sold nearly every fixed blade that I had. Bought a very nice Specialized full suspension mointain bike and never looked back. I had hit my own practical limit for fixed blades. Now I have a handful that I use the heck out of and thoroughly enjoy.
The second time it was folders. My personal cutlery awakening occurred when the "overbuilt" Ti framelock flipper craze blew up. I bought a few different models that I thought I had to have. They cut like shit, and carried like bricks. I tried to cut an apple for my kids at panera and it kept breaking apart. It irritated the F out of me. On a whim, I was looking for something different and bought an Al Mar Falcon. Lock back, micarta handle and bolsters, super thin ffg blade and GASP,... AUS 8 steel. Man it cut like a scalpel and carried light and slim. It made me start looking at FFG blades. Held a spyderco at my local cutlery dealer and before I ralized what was happening I paid for it. Guess what... It made me sell off most of the other folders that I owned at the time. Now I have a handfull of FFG spydercos that I use the heck out. They cut so well and carry so well that they have ruined pretty much every other full sized folder that I look at.
So in way more words than propbably needed, yes, I am in the same spot as you. My advice is sell everything you dont use and cherish the blades that you do carry and use. At some point something will catch your eye and since you have matured in your collecting/using you will be easily able to determine if it is something you actually will use and enjoy.
