Knife equivalent to nicer Spyderco Tenacious?

Just had a choice myself between a Para-Mil and a Manix 2. I went with the PM. Just received it and I really like it.

But I then ordered a full serrated Tenacious because I couldnt resist the amount of knife you get for 34 bucks. It arrives in a few days.

If I like it as much as I expect, I will then eventually get an "upgraded" Tenacious...the Manix 2.

Or is the Tenacious an economical knife that drew inspiration from the Manix 1? If you check your Spyderco history, you might see that the Manix came first and that the Manix 2 is a evolution of that knife. Shocking, I know. Ah well, I know you're just stirring the pot. ;)

I was looking for the same thing. I figured the Sage, Para, and M2 were all in the running but I ordered the M2 just because of the value for money spent (that was my favorite part of the Tenacious). I haven't received it yet but I will let you know what I think.

The Manix 2 is an excellent suggestion. It is of similar size and shape, same handle material, not a lockback, and has better steel. It is EXACTLY what the original poster asked for. You for some reason picked one criterion where they are different (the grind) and tell him to "ignore the above poster" :thumbdn:

Not only was the grind not mentioned in the original post, but for many many people it falls very low on the list of priorities. It's not something that I even consider when purchasing a knife.

WAY off, what a terrible suggestion  :

i wouldn't buy the manix 2 just because of the grind

i love hollow grinds but this one just starts too low, i know it's probably a trade off for strength but the ffg of the original manix or a much higher hollow grind would be much better imo

First one I thought of was the Manix 2.

I looked real hard at that knife before getting the Tenacious.

I really like the Tenacious and after another week of use I wonder if the Manix 2 is that much better???

I'm happy with the T and will hold out for a Sage 2.

The only problem with the FFG Manix 2 is it's rumored to be 4+ inches and S90V. A lot more then the Manix 2.

Think your getting your wires crossed here, There will be a FFG S90V Sprint version with Carbon fiber of the current Manix 2 (which apparently Spyderco are aiming to get out by the end of the year) The only details I've heard so far about the Larger Manix is that the blade is around the 4 inch mark...

The M2 does look very similar. Nice pics.

I find the grind to be more important than anything else. It's what the blade is, and what a knife is all about. Flatgrinding a lesser steel helps the overall blade work better, IMHO, than a better steel sabre ground with a hollow wheel.

All a knife has is it's shape to work with - and the shape can seriously influence the work it can do, as testified by the large number of shapes they come in.
