Knife Faith

Since most of us carry reliable knives, the problem has less to do with the knives themselves, than with the medium we'd be dealing with. Hang from a knife? Hammered into wood, maybe. Jammed into a muddy riverbank, no.

True, my knives are so incredibly übersharp, that when i stab it into a wall

The poor wall shrieks in agony while it splits in two!

hanging from a knife? hahah i leave that to the fatties from cold steel

BTW, it's "splits in twain!" and you have to spit.

I've got PLENTY of knife faith.
I'm praying to the Civilian right now!:D

Yeah, my knives are so sharp I can't hang from them. They'll just slice through the material.

This thread begins with faith, continues along that line, goes to cult-like followings, and now you're talking about mediums! This is indeed a disturbing trend....

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that Lynn Thompson isn't hanging from any knives? It's always someone who's a lot skinnier. Hmmmmm.

Do I smell a video request????

Reading this thread is like trying to read Nietche's Ecco Homo. Twists the brain in circles spirals and other shapes and you are not sure why you are doing it. They know Nietche was insane by the time he finished writing it but not sure if he was at the start.

I am not takng the risk here - bye

No, the Covenant has more grunts.

And the Grunts have more plasma grenades stuck to them.

'cos it's funny.

Ecce Homo.

Oh there are plenty of knives tested to hold 200 lbs. For example, nearly every Axis lock ever made.

It's not terribly hard to do once, but no company is going to cover that kind of use (abuse) in the warranty. Chances are the knife would fail if you repeated the test a few times.
Reliability is usually more of an issue than total strength of the mechanism. If it's overbuilt but unlocks with pressure or a tap, then all the extra beef doesn't do you any good. Right now the Axis lock and Compression lock are my two favorites, due to both the manufacturer and the mechanism.

And I maintain that the Busse crowd has all the others beat for fanaticism.
As far as I know they're the only ones who regularly and intentionally try to bring knives with them after death...

How much do you figure Lynn Thompson weighs? I've never seen him doing pull ups on two Recon 1s hammered into a board, nor have I seen him swinging from knife to knife in overhead demos. Y'know, maybe it's on the new DVD...what'dya think?

One of the things that really sogs my Rice Krispies is his big game hobbies. Killing animals solely for sport is a major turn-off.

he can't stand the buffalo being bigger than he is!

+ fatter=easier to hit :p

Most of Cold Steel's tests have never made any sense to me. They make some okay products, but their testing methods are more for marketing than anything else.

I'd never stand on a folder.

I did hammer my (Camillus) Becker BK7 into the middle unit (of three units) of 2x4's. Hung on it for 15-20 seconds, then worked it loose, hammered it into the bottom unit, then stood on it. I'm a pretty big guy, but it held up fine. Thought about doing the same thing with my Cattaraugus 225Q, then decided not to - smaller tang. I like that one too much to risk it.

thx - cpr
