Knife "features" I fail to understand

1. Sharp spine?
I get it that you can scrap ferro rod with it, but I also know every ferro rod comes with scraper. Also, why don't they just use a lighter? Ferro rod comes from factory just like the lighter does. If you really want to flex then make friction fire...
I never wished my knives were uncoated with sharp spine...

2. Scandi grind?
It's not really slicey if blade has any kind of thickness to it and edge suffers damage more easily, plus you have to remove a lot of material to take the damage out once it happens.

3. Lanyard hole?
I never put string on any of my knives and I can't see point of it for anything except larger fixed blades you can chop with.

4. Really round handle?
I'm not talking about oval like Ka-Bar has, it has some indexing, I'm talking about more round shape. It'll twist and rotate in your hand.

5. No either choil or guard?
How am I supposed to know where edge starts? What if I ever need or wish to stab something?
1. Weight and clutter vs convenience. The striker is usually a thick heavy piece of cheap carbon steel. Some strikers come with wrench cutouts and measurement markings to try to convince you that they're worth carrying, but it's a truly worthless piece of gear. Any, and I mean ANY hard sharp edge or hard 90 degree corner can spark a ferro rod. That includes a broken piece of glass or a jagged rock. You don't need to carry a striker. Having the 90 degree spine on your knife is more convenient and can also be used to scrape other things, such as fatwood.

2. It's the easiest blade geometry to sharpen other than a chisel grind. You just lay the grind flat on the stone. If you have a pocket stone, you just lay the stone flat on the grind. Add a microbevel to finish, and your edge will be stronger. Only a *MICRO*bevel !!!! Don't turn it into a sabre grind. Also don't beat and abuse your knife and it shouldn't ever need an extreme amount of reprofiling. You sound like you've been watching too many youtube knife videos.

3. That's great. Don't use it then. And one day when you put your knife down or drop it and you can never find it again, you'll suddenly wish you had put a bright colored lanyard on it.

4. Yeah I don't like these much either. I'll give you that one.

5. That's not a feature. It's a lack of one. And I also agree.

Fero rods for camp stoves or especially metho stoves. So you don't have turn the lighter upside down.

How about the the over use of the word “tactical” and the clowns that pay $$ to attend “tactical classes”.
7 years on the Army. Not a single tactical class.

Real men use magazine lips. At least till they bend.
The Israeli combat rifle made by Galil actually had a bottle opener on the bipod IIRC; it was there to stop soldiers from bending magazine lips opening beers.

How they look is not the same as how they function.
Which is more important to you?
What a ridiculous statement. If it was all about function, everyone on this forum wouldn't own multiple knives with triple digit pricetags.

And, improving the look by removing the lanyard hole doesn't effect function for 99.999999% of buyers. A good design that insists on incorporating a lanyard hole, has it run thru the spine/backspacer. Win-win.

It's obvious that you have no idea of what a lanyard can be used for...
Be blissful

I’ll be honest, I’m a bit of both. #1 is it has to do the job I need it to do, but a very close #2 is it has to look good, too. There are tons of stuff I’ve looked at in the short time I’ve been into this madness that I’ll never want to own because of how they look. Too industrial, too military, too millennial, too bland. Yeah, I’m one of those people. :p

Look at this beauty: My Carothers DEK1 with stonewashed D3V steel and Cocobolo scales. She's gorgeous and also has a 'hidden' lanyard.

Lanyard hole on most If not all folders is useless. If the lanyard hole is removed from Spyderco Military and PM2, can you imagine how short/compact these knives Would be? Yes I am very aware that the lanyard hole was an innovation and it does have an important function on larger fixed blade.

I need lanyard holes. How can I display my knives without one??

(Notice the Kabar.....I'm slightly distraught that I had to improvise......) 🤣

Also, I'm yet to see ferro rod that comes without the striker.

Sharp spines would be well on knives with cross guards, as you won't be doing push cuts with those anyways...

That suggests you haven't done a lot of shopping for ferrocerium rods. Most do not come with a striker unless you limit you choices to "brand names." In addition, some strikers/scrapers that are packaged with rods don't work well.
