Knife Features you want on a knife!

Or need on a knife depending on what you do...

I was looking over an older model of AK47 by Cold Steel and was thinking, geez they almost got it all right.

Of course the model was discontinued for the newest version (which I feel lost alot of the great features).

SO here is what I want in a knife...

-an ambidextrous lock (ultra or axis style) back locks are OK but under stress I have seen people catch fingers in them.

-a wave feature, it is simply the best deployment I have used and if someone combined this with the above lock system, look out.

-blade length of 4 to 4.5 inches. The smaller knives are OK but for me a folding knife is a myriad of compromise, if I am going to compromise, give me the extra inch. The downside of a little more weight and a little more explaining to sheeple is nothing new.

-Blade style a good tanto point no swedge with some belly and an option of 1.5"-2" of serrations.

-The Handles, G10 no liners, textured rough in the middle then rounded and less so outward.

So what are yours?

Low ride pocket clip that allows the majority of the knife to be easily concealed. Good example is like what is found on the Buck Vantage.

For edc folders:
FFG
Deep pocket carry
Liner or framelock
Diffrent handle material available (G10, Ti etc...)
ease of deployment
Leaf or spear point blade
easy to maintain steel (VG10)
Leightweight (skeletonized)

In short: Spyderco Sage 2 :D

For outdoors:
Scandi or convex edge
micarta or g10 handles.
comfortable in reverse grip
leather over plastic or kydex sheath.
ease of maintaining
preferably not a high carbon steel (altough I`m a fan of ESEE knives.)

Can`t think of any more right now.

Folder:
Titanium frame compression lock, with replaceable steel insert
Titanium side with grip like on ZT 560
Steel Liner on the other side
Peel-Ply Carbon Fiber on other side
Ball bearing strong Pivot pin
Flipper
Peel-Ply Carbon Fiber on other side
FFG with thick blade stock or very high saber grind like the Ritter Grip
3.75 - 4in blade
Stone Wash
Strider SMF Shaped Blade but with 50/50 manix 2 like choil instead of giving up so much cutting edge with Spyderco opening hole
20CP, S110V, 10V, 3V, M390 or CPM-M4 Blade, maybe one of each.

Pfffft, I want all the features of a Sebenza, for the price of a lower end Kershaw...:D

Folder
Blade Type: Spear,
Blade features: coatings are nice, serrations are very welcome
Blade Type: D2, 10 series, 154CM
Lock: Assisted is great, Liners are nice, axis is awesome
Handle: Good looking, i hate spyderco handles they look so ugly. I love stridery looking handles.
Handle material:Wood is nice, G-10 rocks
Frame: If its simple, no springs or complicated things, i like it. I like the use of titanium in features. I love metal washer, i like em thick.
Other: I never use lanyards so i think the holes are usless. I like pocket clips but hate empty pocket holes. I dont care if its tip up or down. I like fine printed logos and letters etched in the blade. Blade play makes me unhappy, but iv never gotten that from benchmade. I like torx screws, i dont like those small ones tho. I have a thing for wide blades, they rock.

Hi carbon steel blade
one handed opening
pref one handed closing
easy pocket carry .

Features I want on a knife:

A comfortable handle that allows for a full grip.
One that does not cause blisters after hours of cutting.

A Sharp blade that is long enough for 99% of my daily cutting needs (4-5" seems about right).
I like a shallow hollow-grind and a clip-point.
I once was a blade-steel snob, but not so much these days.
I just want a blade that will hold a good edge for a decent amount of work and still be easy to resharped.

It must have a good strong and reliable lock.
In my humble opinion, a locking knife is more forgiving of human error.

While appearance is certainly not a "deal breaker", it never hurts to have a beautiful knife on one's side.

Here's a good example of a knife with all the features I prefer....

I like folders usually. My favorite things for them to have are...

Some type of blade coating...I know its cheezy but I like the tiger stripe, or black, LOL.

Military colors for the scales, like desert tan, or OD green, etc.

Lanyard hole...probably my favorite feature, some knives dont have one.

Gimping on the thumb ramp part.

Clip for your pants so the knife sits low in the pocket and doesnt peek out. Id like an option for different clip color, like Khahi since I usually were Khaki pants and the black clips kind of stand out.

Liner or Frame lock, I really hate Axis lock style.
