Knife for a Boyscout?

Let me add some more information. As a Cub Scout/Webelos we used fixed blades. It was my Boy Scout Troop that would not let Tenderfoot scouts use fixed blades, but, if I remember correctly, it was only a troop requirement for those entering scouting for the first time, not for those of us raised in it. Now, this was in the 1960's so my memory is a bit foggy. I did have, and use a fixed blade, a hatchet, and folding knife. I still have my Cub Scout knife:

I really like the Kershaw Field Knife Hunter and wish I had this around when I was in Scouting.

I had one of the official scout folders, but it really was not a good knife. Instead I used mostly a larger three bladed Queen. Later, a medium sized kickback.

Today, I would buy a good sak with the lock on the blade. For a fixed blade, a Mora or maybe an Izula if I thought they would be able to hold onto it.

A multitool is great as a scout. Fixing stoves and other gear, grabbing pots with the pliers, scissors for moleskin, a small saw for little bushcraft projects, etc all come in really handy, but they get a little heavy in the pack.

I was issued one of these that had my serial number on it (kinda like the NSN now). Nowadays the scouts annoy patrons at Kmart peddling popcorn, so they might pass the the money on to the homeless. I bet none of them even has a knife on them, or is able to start a fire, mark a trail, or build a shelter. It's a sad, sad thing.

Oh that's cute. And why do you think that we sell popcorn? Because doing all the things you say we don't is expensive. Something has to pay for it. I am sorry that we have annoyed his highness with our popcorn selling though.

That Kershaw Field Knife is nice. The semi-skinner shape give belly and a useful point.

I always thought the Cub knife was odd. Lock the punch and screw-driver but not the blade on the grounds that proper use of the blade means it does not need a lock. I mean do kids ever do the "improper"?

Off to supervise popcorn sales. ^___^
