Talking to one of my friends today about my new Buck Vantage Pro which was an X-mas gift, she says she would have wanted a Knife for X-mas, but didn't receive one. She revealed a fact that she only has 3 blades :( and that kinda made me sad. I know shes an avid outdoorsperson, so i'm looking into getting her a sturdier folder for outdoor use and EDC, she very well could be a knife knut in the making. Budget is $30 for right now and I don't want it to look too "Intimidating", recommendations for blades at this price point?

Kershaw skyline? you can get them for around $30. Spyderco tenacious is great but i think its a little more.

The KA-BAR Dozier folding hunters may be of some interest to you also Kershaw has quite a few imported models in your price range.

Buck 110 or maybe better would be a 112. You could also do the Bucklite versions or maybe a Paperstone model. The size and shape of the 112 make it pretty user friendly.

Got a feeling she'd like any of the above and they are definitely sturdy.

byrd cara cara 2 in G10 id suggest. just be able to sharpen it to a good edge before you give it to her cuz the stock edge is pretty bad but the blade steel is not bad and takes a sharp edge nicely.

Check out a buck 285cm in green camo or 285cms10 in pink camo. Both are USA made and retail around 25.00

How about a ESEE Izula? (I know, it's not a folder and above your stated budget.)
+1 for a Kershaw
Or? If you have the time... search for an older Gerber 400-3" blade, folder.
Goodluck on your search

If she likes the outdoors alot, maybe she would appreciate a nice little fixed blade like the Buck 102 Woodsman.I got my wife one for Christmas with a Cocabola handle, she loves it.

Cold Steel Pocket Bushman might work for her. Large, sturdy and useful, but still easy to carry and non-intimidating.

Wow, thank you guys for all of the suggestions! Still trying to decide what to get her, but I'm thinking a 110 or 112 would be good. Keep the great suggestions coming.

The 110 and 112 are good knives except for the fact it is like carrying a sack on rocks in your pocket. If you friend likes heavy knives that's fine but I would guess they would like a lighter weight knife. Ask your friend what she wants and go from there.

Get her a Smatchet and have done with it!!

+1 for the Spyderco Tenacious
It can be found for $30 or even slightly less. Has nice G-10 handles, solid liner lock, excellent jimping, and overall has to be among the best buys for the $30 range
