knife for a pastor?

Actually, the kind of knife you get for him depends a great deal on some personal details we don't have. What kind of man is he? What kind of things does he like to do off the clock? And what kind of clothing does he wear most of the time?

Little factors, but important ones. One kind of knife can be carried well in business casual while a heavier knife will be left home. A knife that is too small for large hands will be left at home. The knife has to picked for the man in question, in particular.

I carry a half congress everywhere. I like the way it disappears in my pocket in dress pants or jeans. I've removed splinters, opened mail, broke down boxes, used it on mission work and even built a house with it as my only knife companion. Best of all when I use it in front of old ladies and protective mothers no one freaks out!

Wish you went to my church!
HAHA Well our baptismal is a house trough if that is any indication of our local and you free to join us if you're in NM.

So, remove the specific motivating sentiment and we're looking for a pocketknife for a man with a clerical job (heh) who helps out in the community?

I'd second the recommendations for either a Case Texas Jack or a Case Swayback Jack. Quintessential, American-made, solid in-hand, a fine gift for anyone.

Have fun. :)

Dude! He's a pastor, not a vampire/werewolf hunter :D :p

Seriously, I'm biased for a SAK but agree any Case Knife will be a good one

Of your original 3, I like the canoe.
It's a little less bulky than the ones with two blades on one end, and it's a little more unusual than the stockman, at least. To me it reads dressier for Sundays but still has a big blade in a small handle.
I like the sheepfoot on the stockman, but I wish it could be had without the third blade.
I toyed with scout knife or electrician's knife, but he has tools for working on the church, and ease of carry is a big issue for someone who hasn't been carrying a knife.
(I stopped reading too soon)
Doesn't case have a knife with a blade and a scissors? The scissors are awfully useful, as I realize when I'm not carrying an SAK

Call Joe Houser at Buck knives, tell you want to buy a 303 stockman for your pastor and ask him if Chuck Buck would sign the blade in a special way. I am betting he will.

300Bucks

^^ THIS ^^

Al Buck was very upfront about his faith. I remember my ja dropping when I read the insert I got in the box with my first Buck in the late 70s. Buck still has Al's original message on their web site. Very appropriate for a Pastor or Chaplain.

Along with the 301, I would consider the Buck 501, 503 or 55 as being great gift knives.

Look at the Victorinox Cadet with Alox handles. Very classy and very useful. 3 1/4" closed and very thin, it disappears in the pocket yet is built like a tank. The handle has a small space for engraving. Victorinox F&F is superb. It'll last a lifetime.

Seems to me, a fireman should always have a serrated blade, in case they have to cut a seatbelt.

I have been in the rescue people out of a car business for almost 20 years (EMT-Paramedic), and have never seen a pocket knife used on a scene. I carry a slip joint of some kind but I mostly use it to rescue apples from the peel and to open boxes. I really think it would be cool to buy a preacher a GEC Ben Hogan (just because of who the knife is named after), but I think that is a little out of your price range. I think the ideal of a SAK is probably a good one, maybe an Alox handle to class it up some?

Shepard Hills Cutlery sells a lot of Case knives. They often get Case to do special runs. If you check their website you can find religous themes on several short runs by Case. One of those may be what you're looking for. Search "cross".

Ha!... I spent three yrs preaching and ministering on the east side of El Paso.

If hes a real man, and not some pie in the sky.... too heavenly to be any earthly good type, then get him a REAL knife and not some religious relic/toy that he will sit in an office and never use.

He will influence more people with how he uses a good well made knife than he will with something that looks like he's out to kill vampires!!

Oh, and IMO I really don't think of SAK when I think of the southwest!

i'll second (or third!) the comments above on a Case stockman. Well made, useful blade selection, and fit well in a pocket in the medum size.

Something I'm after myself at the moment, in sunset orange. Perhaps the pastor would prefer one in sunbeam? ;)

Well, I won't recommend what I got for my pastor. (KaBar full size Marine knife. He loves it, but there was a special history involved.)

I think your pastor might like a Case medium stockman. It isn't large, so it won't scare the flock. It disappears in the pocket. Big enough to be useful on work days. Useful blade shapes. And it looks nice. A Texas Jack would also work.

Hey guys thanks for all the suggestions (well most of them ;) ). I settled on a Case amber bone med Stockman in cv for David (my pastor). I'll have to let him know about taking care of it but he takes care of his gear so i'm not worried. I hope yall had as much fun as i did.
Paul
PS. Happy Halloween BOO
