You know, guys, I probably cut myself long before age eleven (heck, I've cut myself a couple dozen times just here at SOG), and the guilt will pass, but fourteen stitches certainly is a pretty big lesson for Little Joe to learn on knife handling. Give me another few days...

Meaning taken. That is a deep long cut. It may not be the proper question, but what kind of knife was the "gift"?

Trying very hard to not "self promote" SOG in the general forum, I purposefully avoided specifics. But, since asked...a TiNi AutoClip (3.6" black blade, non-serrated). He was cutting on a small branch and it got him along side the thumb, the long way.

Best of luck in your knife selection. My comments were not to direct you away from purchasing, but probably more for my mental well-being (you all are certified "couch shrinks"

). If I had to do it again (in maybe a week or two), I'd give another knife in a heartbeat in the same circumstances!

Take care...
