Recommendation? Knife for all conditions

S SomeSimpleton , from your OP it sounds like you might work swimming pool maintenance. I did that gig with my family’s business from age 11-19, and then summers through college.

SE Salts will be amazing.

Will be going with serrated for both now just to find the best deals. If anyone knows a good place for that I am willing to take that.

Go with the sponsoring dealers from this site. DLTtrading, KnifeCenter, bladeHQ, etc... there are others but those are likely the biggest.

Avoid Amazon.

No, I actually work in the IT industry. I sit behind a desk all day. I just am around water very commonly and chlorinated water is one of the types. I am around water almost on the daily.

Nobody mentioned Benchmade that have a Griptilian 551-H2O with N680 steel. :) Strange.

If corrosion resistance is your largest concern, it would be hard to beat a Spyderco in H1. A few years ago my son had a job working for a pool service company. He had to cut open bags of pool chemicals every day, and in just one day his S30V native was covered with rust spots. I got him an H1 Dragonfly, and he used it for the rest of the summer without a trace of corrosion.

If you want other properties to be part of the equation (such as edgeholding) there are a number of steels out there that have good corrosion resistance along with good edgeholding. All blade steels are a tradeoff between competing properties, you choose which properties are most important to you.

I think lansky has a cermaic sharpening stick in a portable size with the groves cut to sharpen the Spyderco serrated edges, I would pick that up if you picked up the serrated Spyderco.

I haven't read all the comments but I'm sure everyone is saying something wit H1. I personally would choose a Spycerco with H1 just because it's prob the best combo of cheap and quality.

I truely think the best knives are in the 300 to 700 range. For example, Chris Reeve Knives, is a very reliable knife for EDC because it's a good balance of most attributes, especially disassembly for cleaning which would help in water conditions. However, this knife is 4+ so it kind of depends on what you're willing to spend.

Well, given that I have an SE Spyderco Pacific Salt in my pocket right now, I suppose I'll recommend that. ;)

If, however, you're hesitant to go with serrations, look at a plain edge Caribbean Salt.

Spyderco with H1 but serrated. My Pacific Salt plain edge is a great knife but the blade is soft as hell. I would go full serrated if I did it again. My Ladybug Salt is serrated and it is fantastic.

I use both for fishing, around my pool, etc.

I just smooth steel the edge back into shape on the plain edge H1, and rotate back to the factory on the serrated, as am totally unimpressed by what most folk call their great sharpening jobs on serrations...

I have that knife, and totally forgot about it.

And are those already problematic omega springs any more rustproof on that Benchmade, or still standard stainless which can rust from pool water?

Even on the Salt model, I still recommend a fresh water flush after pool or salt water, to flush out hinges, the base of spring recess in back, etc, as not everything on that knife is as rustproof as the blade, lockbar, titanium clip and barrel nut...

Alright. Thank you, everyone, for your input. I have decided on two knives.

Will be using the Aqua Salt as a backup knife in my car and the Pacific Salt as a daily. Will be going with serrated for both now just to find the best deals. If anyone knows a good place for that I am willing to take that.

Shop around, use only major authorized dealers such as sponsors here, to avoid extremely common forgeries. You go ebay or amazon and no telling what you might get...

Better learn to sharpen your knife before you go off and spend a bunch of cash on knives. There is no knife that will fit all conditions.

Hello everyone. I am new to the knife scene and recently go into guns too. I already have a list of guns that I have gotten and am planning on getting and have that all figured out but on the half of the knifes part, I turn to you. I want a knife that would be able to withstand chlorinated and regular water and basically a knife for all conditions. I prefer if it would be stronger material because I really hate sharpening for some reason and one last final requirement is that it has to be a foldable pocket knife. I am willing to take knife and metal type recommendations I just really need a knife to fit day to day needs. I currently have a krewshaw knife that looks like a toy its way to small for my hand and after being in water rusted within a matter of seconds.

One word, my friend: bigass titanium sword.
