Knife for Canoing

The Mora's are a very good knife and I can recommend them!

Also, why not have a kydex belt sheath built for your CRKT? Not sure if you have time for this trip, but it sounds like it would make it much more useful for you.

Another option is a SAK paring knife in a kydex sheath. I built and sell a lot of these. The little SAK paring knives are very cheap ($5.00) and cut way beyond their size and price! They are also very light weight and can be worn as a neck knife.

Have a good time!

Victorinox actually makes a Cordura sheath-- costs more than the knife! The paring knives are great for PSK's-- 3/4 ounce, dirt cheap ($3.75 at commercial fishing supply stores), and sharp too. Commercial fishermen use them for net repairs and general cutting chores. You can find a drawer of dull ones somewhere on most commercial boats :)

I did Outward Bound's Bloodvein whitewater canoing course a number of years ago, it was one of the singular greatest experiences of my life, I am sure you will have an equally good time. I would second the recommendation for the Mora knife and maybe a nice Opinel folder to go with it. Don't bring anything too big however, the instructors tend to get nervous when they see you carrying your own machetes and what not, afraid you will hack off your fingers I suppose. In any case regardless of knife, I am sure you will have a good time and enjoy your experience. Best of luck and avoid the faucet ass/beaver fever!

Back in June I did some kayaking but I could not figure a way to attach a knife to my pfd so I wore a neck knife. Does anyone have pics of a pfd with a knife?

Oh, I figured out how to dec tacicoolize the sheath, so it's just normal. I leave tuesday, and I'll be sure to post a good account of what happened, along with (maybe) some good pictures.
If I like it (first time canoeing) I might go again next year, in which case I'll have more time to train and equip myself. I'll get a Mora, heard loads of good stuff about them, and they are nice and cheap- but the Cold Steel Canadian Belt, Finn Bear and Roach Belly also look good.
Outward Bound is supplying us with whistles, but I have a signal mirror that I will put in the matchbox with the REI stormproof matche (work great, just don't light them inside). These go in the pocket on my sheath, and a spare box in the fanny pack, along with somother stuff.
Anybody here have any experience with Outward Bound? Anybody done any Boundry Waters? If so, could you post pictures?
Thanks.
