It seems that my Daughter has started to appreciate having a knife handy. She has asked for one for Christmas. She has also requested that it be quite slim and have about a 3" blade length. I wasn't planning on spending much money on this one and so it seemed that a Spydie would probably be my best bet. Has anybody out there had some good luck procuring blades that would catch a females eye? TIA and Merry Christmas

My wife loves her pink spyderco Jester. It only cost around $25.00 so it's not a big thing if it goes missing, but will still cut most stuff girls cut.

Maybe a Rainbow Leek? Easy to open, pretty slim profile, and attractive coloring. Might be a little more than you wanted to spend, but not too expensive.

bought my daughter several knives. They would be the Kershaw 1550 st a CRKT dont remember the model 3 inch blade heavier knife and a Kiss peck.
For my .02 get a CRKT Mirage warncliff blade, light, solid, looks a little mean

My wife strongly suggests a swiss army knife. A quote "Those scissors come in handy more than you can imagine"

I gave my girlfriend a Spyderco Almite Navigator. It's pretty damn tiny (2 1/8" blade) but it looks cool and she only uses it to cut threads and stuff. Plus it's got VG-10 steel so I don't have to sharpen it a lot.

If I had to pick a knife manufacturer that has the most colorful, attractive knives, it would be Benchmade. However, they are often expenisve, but ebay has a ton. If they are too expensive, you can get a Kershaw Scallion in about 5 different colors for about $30. These knives are safe, but they are also very fun and convenient.

WOW! Women and girls that like knives. That's great! Now, if they start lusting after Harley's and handguns and Nascar you'd have quite a female there. Anyway, try a BM mini-griptilain. My favorite small knife.

I have a green mini-griptillian and it's a great knife. Only reason I didn't suggest it is it's not that thin. But it does come in Purple!

Spyderco Delica VG-10 Plain Edge

2 7/8 blade, strong lock and very light

Excellent knife for anyone

Spyderco VG10 Delica

or

Spyderco Salsa

Either one will easily fit within your requirements, however, I tend to lean more towards the Salsa due to the very ergonomic, Almite coated aluminum handle and Compression Lock. ;) (Not taking anything away from the Delica though, it is also a great little Spydie that can handle its' own in serious cutting chores.)

IMO, you can't go wrong with either of these Spydies. Good Luck :D

How about a Kershaw chive?
small, inexpensive, fun to play with!:D
or you could surprise with a Mnandi!!! :footinmou

Our daughter's first knife was a medium sized SAK but now at 17 years of age her favourite folder is a Spyderco FRN Dragonfly. Female co-workers of mine also like the dragonfly.

I give knives to women fairly frequently. It's usually something they don't have, but always appreciate.

I usually give a Swiss Army (Victronix). For girls I give the small executive with blade, scissors, fingernail cleaner. For teenagers and single women, I give either Leatherman or a medium Swiss Army (purse size) with scissors. For married women, it's a Spyderco Q (you can still get them), serrated Delica, or a medium Swiss Army. Married women have access to tools, thus they don't really need the Leatherman and it can be lifted by the husband. Many people can't sharpen readily, thus the Spyderco serrated is useful, but Spydercos don't have screwdrivers or scissors, which many women like to have in their purse. That's why the medium swiss army is a good choice.

However, if your girl is an outdoors type, a Buck lite is often appreciated. Cheap, sharp and light with a decent size blade. One women, after seeing my Bear Balisong, wanted one for herself. I gave her one for Xmas. Not realizing the "history" of the knife, she freely uses it as a utility knife and now her neighbors (ex-cons) call her Blade.

The Al Mar Ultralights are very thin and light weight. I have recently purchased the Falcon that only weighs in at 1.5 ounces with a flat ground, 3.25 blade of AUS-8 that came razor sharp. Al Mar also makes one with a 4 inch blade and one with a 2.75 inch blade I believe. Handle material is black polished micarta. I do believe the small does not have a pocket clip. The large and medium do have a reversible pocket clip. Knife is totally ambidextrous with the reversible pocket clip and dual thumb studs. The ergonomics of the design are outstanding. Reminds me of the Benchmade AFCK. Quality, fit, and finish are excellent. Big D1

I'd go with a Spyderco Native, zytel handle and CPM 440V steel!
You (and she!) won't be disappointed!
Bye

Like The Bear, I would suggest the Spyderco Native. My wife and I were trying to find her a knife and she tried out many different styles. She had trouble getting a lot of them open due to her smaller hands. She tried the Native and got it open with no trouble. Great quality knife, nice shape, and good steel.

I think the al mar would be a great choice, excellent finish, light weight, scary sharp. Plus its nice and slim.

Truck: How old is your daughter?

My daughter's first knife was a Swiss Army Knife (a McKinley, $19.50 @1SKS), that was at the age of 7. Since then (she's 9 now) she's added a Buck Tool and Brusletto fixed blade to her collection. The SAK was a good learner knife, a good size for her hands, plus had the extra blades for tinkering around camp. Still, she usually goes back to the SAK and takes it when she goes on outings. The Buck spends the most time in the drawer. For whittling and cleaning fish, she prefers the Brusletto.

Cheers,
