I need some help. My girlfriend isn't into knives at all, she has an izula for when we go hiking or camping, but other than that she never felt the need to carry one. I got an order in from knifecenter last week and I got a free knife with the order. It's an awful knife but she fell in love with it instantly and has been carrying it around with her ever since.

After watching her use it to cut down a cardboard box, i decided i wanted to get her something that wasn't a slipjoint. She's on board for me getting her a new knife but it has to meet certain criteria.

  • Needs to have a wood handle
  • she really likes the different burls i have on my fixed blades
  • needs to have some color if possible
  • not pink, not rainbow, not anything "girly"
  • needs to have a sturdy lock
  • and around a 2.5 to 3 inch blade.

So far the only thing ive showed her that she liked was a kershaw OD-1 that philip dobson had customized with a gorgeous wood handle. I'm hoping for someone that knows of a production knife that might meet these criteria.

Thanks!!

Have you looked at the Fallkniven line? The TK3 have all sorts of bone, micarta and wood scales. Then again, they're pricey.

Knew I forgot to mention something...

I'm trying to keep it under $100.

Thanks!

Maybe a Case Copperlock.Queen or GEC might have something with a lock that woud fit your criteria.

When i first read your heading i thought it was a trade knife for girlfriend. I was going to make an offer. :D

The opening method on the Eskelimoor 1&2 is actually fantastic. There's a very simple and easy to learn method that will allow her to flip the blade open almost effortlessly with just a little practice. It can either be flipped or opened nice and slowly. They are excellent knives and this would be my suggestion as well.

Get her a Kershaw Titanium SG2 Junk Yard Dog II Blem - not girly at all.

Only wood I have experience with is the cocobolo on my Dozier Buffalo River Hunter. Not much color, but it feels dense and "smooth".

Since she likes that Barlow, why not a top quality small-bladed knife (such as a Barlow) from G.E.C. (or its sister companies Tidioute and Northfield)? Indeed, it doesn't have a lock, but in my opinion that's not such a big deal.

For a locking knife, EKA was mentioned, and indeed the Eka Svede is absolutely lovely and very light. I have the birch ("masur") version; while the very affordable Svede 88 is made of darker wood.

Maybe a Buck Squire or Ranger. Lonewolf is pretty good also, ebano wood handles under $100. Boker has new beer barrel line but I think they are all slippies. My wife carries her Izula all the time in her purse
