Knife for hunting/survival

I'm suprised only one person has mentioned the SRK as a good quality ,low dollar hunting/camping/survival knife.
I'm not saying the others aren't good choices also but, for the mony the SRK can NOT be beat in my book.

Ever thought of a Grohman survival knife? Large enough for many used, and great for skinning also. Fallkniven H1 is even thicker than the F1 and has more sweep for skinning...I like the handle better also. Ontario TAK and Rat-5 would both probably fit the bill nicely, and the BRKT Gameskeeper is bullet proof. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the choices mentioned by everybody so far. I almost always carry two fixed blades in the woods anyway.. one small and one large.

The Ka-Bar impact warthog in 1095 would be a sweet skinner.it's not too big either. If you don't like all-black knives try the impact spear-point with the micarta handles. It's in D2,so is the impact D2 fighter. It's a clip point with no "blood" groove and micarta handles. All of the above are full tang.

Rather than look for one knife to do it all why not get a chopper and a light cheap fixed blade in the 3-4 inch like a mora or a grohman.

Check out the Bob Dozier web page and look at the KS-7 Wilderness Knife. I just ordered one for myself yesterday with white handles.

If Dozier is to pricey for you then yes indeed go with a Fallkniven F1 or S1 with the laminated VG-10 steel. The F1 is the official survival knife for the Swedish military and they work in some pretty sever environments.

Ciao
:)

go to NGK's website and look at the Spyderco Chinook. that knife is the best, IMO. it can be a survival knife, a SD knife, and makes for a great utility knife as well!!! check it out.

Ill add to the BRKT recomandition. The Northstar was prometed as a bushcraft knife as well as a good all around blade for hiking, hunting, etc. It only weighs 4 oz. I used all over the country and it never let me down. The Fox River is also similar to the NorthStar, but its more of a hunting knife (more belly or upsweap). Neither weight much a ride nice on a belt. BRKT knives are mostly A2, which will hold its edge for a long while and simple upkeep will repel any would-be rust. Oh and Scoot over at Razorback is putting a convex edge on my D2 TAK and RAT 7 in 1095, so they will be sweet.
