knife for my dog

I always wanted my 3 year old dachshound Luther to carry a knife just like I do. So my first idea was to get him one that he'd have strapped around his waist. But now I think that a knife attached to his collar would come kinda handy. This way we both can carry our knives.
Can anyone give me a suggestion were I can find a supplier who could make me some sort of custom made collar/holster.

How about something substantial like a 15" machete in a custom neck-hanger sheath?
hehe
Chiro 75 had some kydex sheaths for a leatherman wave or something awhile back.

Are you serious??

Welcome to the forums!!!
You need to ask Donna over at the "Filipino Combat Arts Forum" if she still has the picture of her dog with most of her knives on its back. It should give ya an idea or two. You could always clip a Spyderco Ladybug on your dog's collar. Dog Neck Knives.

If my dog (Rhodesian Ridgeback) wore a knife on her collar I would probably have used it on her by now; my wife (who hates violence)would certainly have done so

. As you will know pedegree dogs are expensive and can be infuriatingly dumb, however I don't think my dog would look any more scary with a katana round her neck, I'm sure my neighbours who have regretted sudden moves in my direction would all agree.
(PS willkommen and I hope you're not going to take the p*** all the time)

I like the idea of a cross the back scabbard. I would vote for a short sword on a cross the back carry. And once he was trained very well, you could teach him to draw it with his teeth.

This is a Dachshound, people, a little dog. No machetes. No katanas. No swords. How about a little Leatherman Micra just hung like a tag on Luther's collar? In fact, you could put it on with one of those separatable keychain things, and it'd be easy to use. While it's not so important with a short-haired Dachshound, for a longer haired breed what get's a lot of hopeless tangles, I'm thinking Springer Spaniel here, a Micra with it's little scissors would be the perfect thing to have handy.

Welcome to the Forums!
Sooo, what exactly is your dog going to be using his knife for?
Whittlin' throwing sticks?
Defense against German Shepards?

Hello,

I'd think a Spyderco Dragonfly would do the trick, although the Leatherman Micra has also been mentioned and seems like a good idea.

However, maybe you should build a little cart for the dog to haul around a Cold Steel Kukri or Trailamster.

My dog, being a "chow hound", would carry a
table knife on his collar, and a backup butter knife on his rear right leg.

Hello timothy,

first i want to ask you if you dog is a dackel / teckel?! If so, gollnick is right with his opinion about machetes and katanas, except you want your dog to use it like a plowshare in the garden.

No, a small folder, like the one's mentioned or even a miniature fixedblade would be right. If you have any ideas about the collar and/or the holster, i can do it for you. Email me for details.

Well, ergonomic design! Now we have some ideas how to carry knives, then shall we move on to the next, how to draw it?

Well, since your dog doesn't have pockets, that may leave some clips out, unless you stick with attaching them to his collar.

I'm still with Paul, though. Where's you find a dog with thumbs? That's got to be great! He can operate the can opener by himself, and open your beer for ya! Cool!

To bring this thread back to an air of seriousness...I would suggest a small knife, for obvious reasons. If you hang a knife from the collar, it will be pretty out of the way due to the fact that your dog is a lowrider by nature, also because of the fact that the knife will be under his chin due to the weight. YOu also don't want to hang something heavy from his collar because it'll tire his poor neck out. Something superlight like an Emerson La Griffe would be perfect. Or, better yet, a Running Dog Knife COmpany Little Pup. See a review on my webpage. The lanyard hole is in the shape of a dog's paw print. Can't think of anything more appropriate than that! http://www.runningdogknife.bigstep.com

You might consider a Cold Steel ready edge.. lightweight handy and would clip to the collar.. Mark / FL

I would suggest spraying a little ground black pepper up under his tail.

The result is a genuine "mad" dog.
