Knife for my GF's brother?

Dang! Shank anyone lately? :D

I like to collect things that are dirty, nasty, hardcore, f* someone up, kinda stuff. This is my nastiest. I actually named it my "Something Nasty".

If you think Delica is too small, Endura is might be the best bet, and im sure you can find one for around $50 bucks or so.

I think the tenacious is gonna be an awesome gift, its big, sturdy and wont break the bank. and im sure that he will think you spent way more than the 35 dollars for it.

Anyone know anything about the Blade-Tech MLEK Lite?

Looks like a fine knife for the money (no personal experience with it, though). I wonder if the recurve on the blade might be more difficult for him to learn to sharpen (esp with a flat stone. Probably less of a problem with rods (or SharpMaker).
If he is working in a BBQ place, I would recommend a grip with lots of texture (hands get greasy in such joints). I think Spyderco or Byrd knives with G10 would be nice, or a BM MiniGrip. If you go with a Leek (which I love), I'd recommend one of the textured G10 grips, not the smooth ones found on most Leek models.

> He's a waiter/cook so it will be used for opening box, packages, and all that random stuff there is to cut at a BBQ joint. Of course he wont be using it for cooking but everything else.

Think about a Spyderco Centofante 3 or 4, depending on your preference. Classy folders that cut incredibly well thanks to a relatively thin blade. This means that should he want to, they are actually well suited for food prep, much like a laguiole but sturdier.

If you were leaning towards the Delica which happened to be too small... There's always the Endura ;)

Spyderco Tenacious or Byrd Raven (about same size.) At least as starter knives. If he proves that he won't use them as screwdrivers, then get him an Endura or something like that ;)

I'm gonna suggest something a tad more expensive. How about a new Manix 2 that just came out? 82-ish bucks.

If not, then I suggest a Griptillian.

Tenacious is a nice knife, but I'd look for a Paramilitary. Amazing knife with a very utilitarian design.

If you're looking at the Delica, look at the Salt I/Pacific Salt. Rustproof and perfect beaters for people who may end up using it as a pry bar. H1 is tough stuff.

Thanks for all the ideas guys!

I've got it narrowed down between a few Kershaw's and a Spyderco Native or Delica...I think...

cant go wrong with a delica, delicas make great presents for everyone, and are great for those looking to get their first knife.
