Knife for my girlfriend..

i got my girlfriend the spyderco "S" she absolutely loves it! it has a very nice design and comes scary sharp. and the pocket clip will not alert people shes carrying a knife either.

Get her this. Made by Ka-Bar , designed by one of the best in the industry.

It is low costing ( so if shes not a knife person it wont break your wallet.. ) , well made , perfectly executed. My girlfriend loves hers !

Try one of the mini emersons like a-100 or mini cqc-7 and if you want to spend a few more bucks get strider pt.

Is the knifeworks.com the best price on the Para?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Right now she carries a Swiss Army knife, looking to step her up into something more serious, more durable, and something we can take on our 2700 mile hike (non-stop) that I won't worry about breaking.

Blade, I don't claim to have an answer for you. I can't see a folder for a primary knife on a cross country hike. Even to consider it, you are looking at large heavy knives which are not really suitable for lighter duty.

I'd stall. The KaBar Doziers are only about $20, huge steps up from SAKs, and extremely good GP knives. Get her the bigger knife, sure, when you can settle on what to get, but throw in one of the Doziers, too. It'll get a lot more daily use, and it will be a mighty useful spare on the trail.

I've been sitting here laughing at all the pink knives. I know women who would be insulted by a pink knife, too.

My girl happends like pink ( I got her metallic pink SD with aluminium handles and I am thinking giving her pink SAK spartan, though Kershaw Chive would be nice too ) but some don't like pink. Just get the colors you know she likes.

IMHO you should have fixed blade as primary blade in hike and folder as 2ndary. But that is just me. Bark River Bravo Necker, Rat Izula, Becker Necker would be excellent gifts for hike. But if she likes Presidio, I urge you to get that.

My first thought was the Kershaw OD-1. It's sleek and carries easily, and can cut with the best of them. It's not "girly" either, I carry mine all the time.

I'm chuckling at all the people who keep recommending pink knives, even after Blade_Fan told us he wouldn't be getting her a pink knife

im a lady and when we go camping or hiking my favorite knife to carry is my spyderco british racing green zdp-189 endura. i love mine, and i feel a little safer knowing i have it on my side. my husband carries a manix2 with him.

Spyderco Delica 4 FRN Foliage Green. Both practical and cool. I would get her two. One serrated, one with a plain edge.

Or a Delica with a stainless steel handle. Your girlfriend might have a different taste, but most women seem to prefer heavier knives, or at least knife handles that are not made from FRN.

Keep ergonomics and hand size in mind. I was looking at knives with one of my female friends and she dismissed the Spyderco Police as soon as she picked it up. Why? Her hands are so small that getting to the thumb-hole was uncomfortable for her.

I bought my ex a 707. Good blade steel, axis lock keeps her hands out of the way and it's a benchmade so she'll pretty much never break it. Any of the osborne series are good too, 940, 943 would be awesome for a lady's EDC.

with the qualifier that this thread's a bit old at this point, my wife adopted my benchmade 940 as soon as we were married and won't give it back. I'm going to have to buy another eventually.

I'd look into a damascus scallion, or leek from kershaw, they look cool and are a great size for smaller hands.

Plus they come in Pink!

I've got smaller hands, and I use this one as a dress knife, but i'm sure i'd hold up well as an EDC.

Given that this thread is some four months old, if you haven't bought anything yet, how about a mini-Ritter RSK: S30V blade a little under 3 inches, and you can get it with a pink or yellow handle.

I am very impressed with the one I have, and think it would be a good "purse" knife.

i'm not sure but i think that either of the two knives below would do. she might like them. oh if someone reads this and knows if these are good or bad knives please let me know. i'm pretty sure there good knives but I'm not positive. i just started collecting knives a year ago so i don't know a lot about them yet. hoping to learn more trough this forum :)

I'd go for the Benchmade 555 Mini-Griptilian -- my girl finds the oval easier for opening than the thumb stud. And it comes in several colors (black, blue, yellow, OD green, and yes, pink) -- all for around $100 or less.

Hey all, I looked through and read 9 pages of pertinent threads, but thoughts I'd create yet another "which knife" thread. Sorry! :o

My girlfriend needs a knife. It won't be pocket carried daily, but should have a pocket clip. She was looking at the Benchmade Presidio's and liked them a lot, but I don't know if this is best. Is this a good knife that can hold it's own, even when we hike in the back country?

Good materials, blade steel? Stay sharp or acceptably sharp for longer periods? Good enough for mild abuse if need be?

Suggestions welcome. She doesn't have a budget, but probably in the $100-125 range.

then that's what i would get her :) it's not like she said she liked an M-tech, or something. that would require a "veto" on your part.

there were a lot of reasons that i chose a Kershaw Blur , for my wife and she's bee really happy with it. however, if she had been familar with the different brands, involved with the selection (it was a surprise), and took a liking to something in particular, that's what i'd've gotten her.

imagine fondling a knife, deciding you like it, then receiving a different knife from your significant other. not many people would dig that :(
