Knife for my old man : Would the 55 be a good choice?

I would recommend the 55. I purchased one based on a thread from this forum and carried it everyday for the last year and a half. It is hardly noticeable in your pocket.

If you're used to a 110 or 112, the 55 looks almost toy-like. But it's quite capable, holds a fine edge, and is great for unobtrusive pocket carry. It's definitely thinner than the 501, 503, 505 series — and it resembles the full-size 110, a plus if he was struck the 110's looks.

Older hands releasing locks — yes, that can be a problem if your hands are no longer as strong as they were once. If you go for a lockback such as the 55 or one of the 500-series, pay a bit more and buy it in a store where you can actually check that the lock releases reasonably easily. Your father will appreciate it. After checking the knife out, you can rebox it and wrap it nicely for him.

Glad to hear it. That's what I'm going for. Getting him something he might actually want to carry and use.

Sound advice, man. I'll definitely do that.

The 55 came in the mail yesterday. Damn, it's a nice looking little knife.

I'll try and get some pics up tonight. I'm sure he's going to like it.
