I have an unused BM Nimravus laying around the house and am friends with a fellow who recently received his naval commission. He will be serving on a guided missle destroyer. Will he be able to use/ carry such a thing?

I am quite sure he need something much more corrosion proof!!!!!!!

I actually got out of the Navy only two days ago. He most certainly can carry a knife and it's a very good idea (depending on departments.) A good multitool is also a good idea.

Tom, I think personnel on missle destroyers prefer to spend their time below decks, not IN the water

Seriously, for those who have served at sea, is corrosion of normal SS a big problem ?

If so, you may want to check out the new Boker folders. they have some kind of super no-rust steel that has gotten good reviews.

I am sure the new officer would appreciate a new knife but I doubt his commander will want him walking around the ship with a fixed blade knife ...unfortunately even our commanders act like sheeple at times. A folder would be a much better choice.

I served 20 years in the Coast Guard and though everyone was encouraged to carry a knife onboard, we were encoraged to carry folders.

My first knife 21 years ago? A Buck 110. I wish I still had it.

It really depends on what department he's in as to wheter or not he'll be able to get away with the ~large fixed blade. If he's an Admin officer than probably not but if he works in engineering than possibly. Being a JO he is a little more visible than us enlisted so you might want to go with a folder after all.

I have a great idea - have your friend buy out SMKW's stock of CRKT Mirage's and Commanders, at $10 per, and then resell at a profit to all his shipmates who forgot to bring a pocketknife. Keep one for himself, of course.
