Can you please recommend a knife for an inflatable rescue boat. Fixed blade and must be a blunt tip - and very resistant to a salt environment. Also please let me know of a good treatment to protect it when on the boat eg. Marine Tuff Cloth. Thanks guys

Take a look into cheap diving knives. Their steel is inexpensive and easy to machine (that keeps the prices on a low level) and they are very rust-resistant (plus easy to sharpen). The downside is that they do not hold an edge well. I do not have specific models in mind, but there are many cheap ones out there that should match your requirements.
You should be able to get one with a blunt tip in a diving supplies shop.

If money is not an issue, you might want to consider a Mission knife and have a knifemaker blunting the tip section.

Spyderco Rescue 93mm.
VG10 is quite resistant to rust, you might want to rinse it in fresh water if it contacted with salt water. There was a thread a while ago in the Spyderco Forums (in here) that many had indicated they just rinse with fresh water and everything is fine.

I would look at a Benchmade River Rescue which is a highly stain resistant Gin-1 steel, G-10 handle scales and pretty cheap (~$50).

Would also look at the Mission MPU Dive knife. It's all Titanium and will not rust (ever), blunted tip and partially serrated. They sell for around $100.

Hope this helps!

Why not try the Benchmade Model 100 River/Rescue with the BT coating? The coating will definitely help with salt water protection, and it has a somewhat blunted tip. This knife is designed for what you are asking. As far as a protectant, you don't need much more advice than what you suggested yourself. Marine Tuff Cloth.

Dunno about the other peopple posting here, but I'm a poor college kid. And I can guarantee that whatever knife you take out in the raft, you'll lose it overboard. maybe not first time out, but you will eventually. So I would suggest something like a cheaper 420 dive knife. For anything BUT dive knives I hate 420 with a passion, but it is VERY corrosion resistant alloy, and would work well for this application. Plus they can be found very cheap.

Hey, Steven Andres, what do you wanna cut... seeing as you're in an inflatable, the rest of the edge, in spite of the blunt tip, can really ruin your day. If you're only looking ot cut rope and webbing, look into "Hook knives" or the "Jack the Ripper" knives made especially for Parachitusts for cutting cord and webbing. There are also versions which can accomodate larger diameter rope.

So, I'd say, have a normal knife, and a "safety" knife as well.

Steven,

One that comes to my mind is the Newport from Bud Nealy. It might be a little bit expensive for a rescue knife that´s just waiting in your boat to be used... and never will hopefully. On the other hand, if you really need the knife in an emergency, it better be good. One of the nice aspects of this knife is the MASS system which allows you to attach the knife to anything, including the hull of your inflatable.

Hope this helps.

I haven't tried a Myerchin A500 but it looks good for the job:
