Knife For Shark Protection?

I've done a buch of snorkeling and some diving, the diving knife I have actually has a flat tip more for prying things so I don't think it would be a good stabber. Most of the times when sharks bite humans its a case of mistaken identity and usually let go as apparently they don't like how we taste and prefer a fat little seal. In jamaica I was diving on a reef, came out of the water and right where I had been a black tip bit a big fish in half. He could have easily gotten a big chunk of me but choose not to for whatever reason. Anyways I got off topic, I think I'd like a dagger type with a double edge that way whatever way I hit him well slashing it's sharp, when ur being eaten alive I can't imagine you have your wits about you lol. Also a nice sharp point for his eyes, gills, and nose

I'm all about protecting sharks with knives. Seriously. If we went around with big scary knives killing everyone who either consumes or profits from shark fin soup, I bet we could make a real difference for the sharks. Of course guns would be more efficient, but using knives would have a much more visceral effect.

While scuba diving in Key Largo we came across a Blacktip shark. I'd estimate 7-8ftr. He was just loafing along and we, at full fin stroke, could BARELY keep up with him. He had absolutely no interest in us.

I once did the Dolphin encounter in Mexico and one of the things the dolphin does is push on your foot, as you're holding a wakeboard, and he gets you on plane, effortlessly.

My point is that big sea life has a lot more options than you. Any knife/tool/implement will be difficult to employ in a surprise situation.

Gratuitous screen capture of the Blacktip from my gopro :D :

I'm thinking it would be far more effective to just shove your head in the sharks mouth from the get go. At least that will give others some time to escape and get it over with for you in a relatively painless fashion. Good luck...

LOL Flatsman007 good one...When kayaking in the ocean I carry a hammerless snubnose 38 loaded with full metal jacket, NOT, hollowpoints...That gives me 5 rounds to fire reguardless if I'm in the water or not..I carry this in a small fanny pack around my waist..(YEA' I watched Jaws too many times when I was a kid)..

20 years ago I got my NADI advanced certification (scuba) and was two cert dives away from rescue diver..I had maybe 25-30 dives while stationed in the Philippines..My Hawaiian sling made me feel like Chuck Norris underwater...It was six foot long with a three prong paralizer tip..My first 3-4 dives I had a big ol dive knife strapped to my leg..I "sometimes not always" envisioned myself fumbling for the knife while getting my butt chewed on...The six foot sling kept me in a comfort zone and I never dove with out it..In all honesty I've never seen a shark on all my dives..Belive me I was looking..
